I just started my Marvel Cinematic Universe marathon last night in preparation for Avengers: Infinity War with the one that started it all: Iron Man. A fantastic, action-packed adventure from start to finish; Robert Downey Jr. was perfect as Tony Stark in every way, from his sparkling wit to his playboy lifestyle, it was as though he was born to play Iron Man. The movie also mixes action, comedy and drama in the right proportions. Not to mention that the Iron Man costume was kick ass.

All in all, a robust 5 out of 5.

Nice! I caught a bit of Captain America: The First Avenger on TV and it was better than I remembered. Lots of practical effects and slick cinematography!

I agree completely. It is as if RDJ was made to play the role of Stark. I also loved the Iron Monger armor. Wish it could have had more screen time, but it was still incredible.

Finished day 2 of my Marvel Cinematic Universe marathon with Iron Man 2.

It was good, but not as good as the first one. The villain Whiplash was underwhelming and the film is a little slow in the middle, but I liked the additions of Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and as always, Robert Downey Jr. shines as Iron Man. Also, the action scene towards the end of the film was epic.

All in all, even though the middle section prevents IM2 from being better than its predecessor, it's still a fun sequel.

Mr Magic
Braveheart

A great film about a great, heroic man:

William Wallace.

Is it any wonder this is one of 1995's best films? Mel Gibson really put on an astounding performance. And I can't forget how dynamic the story and action is. Of course I have to mention James Horner's composing. Mr. Horner, you're a music-making treasure. You were just gone too soon.

5 stars.

Thor, as part of day 3 of my MCU marathon.

I'm as surprised as you might be: Kenneth Branagh, a classic director in charge of a superhero movie? That's unheard of. But in the case of Thor, he managed to pull it off. Chris Hemsworth as the Norse god Thor and Tom Hiddleston as his treacherous brother Loki prove to the world that they have the star quality to become mega marquee names in the near future. Not as good as Iron Man, but still thunderously great entertainment.

Star Wars Last Jedi (2017)

I think I've come to realize I no longer care for Star Wars. This movie was so formulaic, I felt like it was just the same 40 minutes over and over. Rebels get caught, devise shoddy plan, execute plan narrowly with last second intervention, repeat. We got totally ripped off and what should have been 2 epic battles. Kylo Ren vs Sloth and Kylo Ren vs Skywalker. Instead we get 2 of the most unsatisfying climaxes possibly in Star Wars history. People rag on the sequels, but at least seeing Yoda fighting was awesome.

The entire movie subverts expectations. Every single thing your were excited about (Rey meeting Luke) or curious about (Snoke's backstory) in the Force Awakens gets literally tossed out like Luke throwing away his lightsaber.

People are gonna argue "Oh it was surprising" but my question is, "did these directoral choices payoff?"

The answer is a resounding NO. Cheap tricks are no substitute for quality storytelling.

You're definitely right. Luke Skywalker seemed more like Mark Hamill than anything. The shoulder dusting after the blaster barrage? C'mon! And where was Snoke during the prequels, the Empire Strikes back?

I mean, I know it's a made up story but they're taking so many liberties it's throwing me off.

The Last Jedi confirmed my worst fear about The Force Awakens that they are making things up as they go
