Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. I know I did. Mine was actually one of the better thanksgivings I've had in my life, for a few personal reasons. And of course, we have this week's Virtual Console update for the week of November 26, 2015:

Wii U Virtual Console:

Konami Krazy Racers (GBA)
$6.99

At least this game is one of the better titles to get. Konami Krazy Racers is not only a solid Mario Kart clone, but it's actually better than Mario Kart Super Circuit. I find it interesting how Dracula from Castlevania is a character in the game, as well as Grey Wolf from Metal Gear Solid.

Also, on a bit of a sour note, Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 have both been pulled from the Wii Virtual Console. Unfortunately, there's no sign of those two games, or Sega Genesis games in general, coming to the Wii U Virtual Console. That's pretty sad, but on the flipside, at least there's still the 3D Classics version of Sonic 1 and 2 on the 3DS eShop.

Right now, Nintendo is holding a Black Friday sale on the eShop, and a few Virtual Console games are getting discounts. For the Wii U Virtual Console, Metroid Fusion, which is normally $7.99... is discounted at $4.79. Mario Golf and Star Fox Command, both of which is normally $9.99, is discounted at $4.99. On the 3DS Virtual Console, Punch Out Featuring Mr. Dream and Metroid, both of which are normally $4.99, are discounted at $2.49.

Last week had no Virtual Console releases. I'm guessing because Trauma Team was released instead. Yeah, it seems that even though the Wii download games are it's own separate category on the eShop... they do seem to be getting the same treatment as a Virtual Console title. Even though it really isn't as they run the same exact way they do when you run the original disc in Wii mode.

But now, we do have something for the week of December 10, 2015:

Wii U Virtual Console:

Medabots: Metabee (GBA)
$6.99

Medabots: Rokusho (GBA)
$6.99

Can't say I have too much to say about this week's releases. I was never into Medabots even as a kid.

Week of 12/17/2015:

Wii U Virtual Console:

Mega Man Zero 4 (GBA)
$7.99

Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Protoman (GBA)
$7.99

Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel (GBA)
$7.99

Yes, this week contains a few Mega Man GBA releases. Mega Man Zero 3 was originally intended to be the final game in the series... however, Capcom ordered one more game in the series to be made with Mega Man Zero 4. Haven't really played much of the Zero series, but from what I heard, this fourth game ended up ending the Zero series on a high note. Although Mega Man Zero did end up getting it's own spinoff series for the DS titled Megaman ZX.

Mega Man Battle Network 5 may be two games for the GBA, but both games were combined into one title for the DS along with extra features. I think getting the DS version would be logical, but for now, it seems we're just getting the separate GBA entries of Mega Man Battle Network 5. However, I played the GBA version of the game. Even though it was better than Battle Network 4, the series was still on a bit of a decline thanks to all the sequels Capcom liked to release at the time.

Happy 2016 everybody. And this is the last Virtual Console release of 2015. Yeah, no games were released during Christmas week... that is, unless you count the original Super Mario Galaxy for the original Wii. Oddly enough, Nintendo had it listed on their site as a Wii U Virtual Console release, even though it doesn't count as one. Like I said many times before, the Wii games on Wii U do not count as Virtual Console releases. They're just standard downloads of the original games that runs the same way they do by running the disc on Wii Mode. You don't get the customized Virtual Console menu with save states, custom controls, or any of that. Hell, you can't even use the Wii U Pro controller or Gamepad. Anyway, that was all we got for Christmas week. What a letdown.

But we did get something pretty good for New Years Eve. So let's bring it on. This is the Virtual Console release for the week of December 31, 2015:

Wii U Virtual Console:

1080° Snowboarding (N64)
$9.99

One thing that should be noted is that both the Wii and Wii U releases of 1080° Snowboarding has the ads for Lamar Snowboards and Tommy Hilfiger outfits intact... unlike the Wii Virtual Console release of Wave Race 64, which removes ads for Kawasaki and Fanta and replaced them with ads for the Wii and DS. However, the recent European release of Wave Race 64 on the Wii U Virtual Console brought back the Kawasaki and Fanta ads.

It is the first week of 2016, and for that, we have the first ever Virtual Console release update for January 7, 2016. Let's get started.

Wii U Virtual Console:

Hogan's Alley (NES)
$4.99

Wild Gunman (NES)
$4.99

The Adventures of Bayou Billy (NES)
$4.99

This week is essentially North America catching up with Europe as a few of these releases are games that should have been released back in October. Both Wild Gunman and Hogan's Alley were released in Europe on October 21st, 2015 in celebration of Back to the Future Day. As most of you know, Wild Gunman was famously featured during Back to the Future Part II, as Marty McFly showed a few kids in the Cafe 80s a Wild Gunman arcade machine. Wild Gunman may not be a baby's toy now, but playing it with the crosshair turned on would sure make it feel that way. Thankfully, you can turn it off by tapping the D-pad on the Wii remote. I still do hold to my opinion that Nintendo of America really missed the boat by not releasing it during the week of Back to the Future Day. The Halloween game they released that week could have waited until the week after.

Aside from it's well known appearance in Back to the Future, Wild Gunman was also used in Super Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U, as it was part of Duck Hunt's down B and final smash. Same with Hogan's Alley, as the can from that game was Duck Hunt's neutral B, and was his final smash.

Bayou Billy isn't easy. The bad guys can hurt you easily before you can attack.
