Happy Halloween, kiddies. Here's this week's lineup for 10/30/2014:
Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console:
Gargoyle Quest II: The Demon Darkness (NES)
$4.99
Wii U Virtual Console:
Demon's Crest (SNES)
$7.99
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland (GBA)
$7.99
This is quite an interesting lineup with two Gargoyles Quest games, along with a crappy remake. Gargoyle's Quest II was a game that was also ported for the Game Boy in Japan. It was originally planned on being released in North America in July 1993, but ended up getting cancelled. Who knows if the 3DS Virtual Console will ever get that game.
Both Gargoyles Quest II and Demon's Crest marks these games official Virtual Console debut. With all the games released, you can now experience the entire trilogy on the Wii U and 3DS.
And why in god's name is Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland released?? That game is another example of Nintendo going full-on George Lucas with their franchises. What I mean is them remaking a game for one of their modern consoles. In this case, it was Kirby's Adventure on the NES, where they take one of their old games, and re-release them disguised as a "brand new game". This was an act that I found especially irritating during the Game Boy Advance era... and they still do it to this day with crap like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Wind Waker HD.
I can accept releasing the GBA version of Yoshi's Island, as they couldn't get the SNES original due to the Super FX chip. But Kirby's Adventure is already on the Wii U Virtual Console... and for much cheaper. Releasing the GBA remake is double-dipping. Not to mention that Kirby's Adventure has already been milked enough with the GBA game, the 3D Classics remake, it's inclusion on Kirby's Dream Collection and the Virtual Console releases. I think that, along with Ocarina of Time, are Nintendo's most-milked titles.

Well, Nintendo Direct happened yesterday, and there were some good announcements. Aside from a certain Zelda remake I already vented my opinion on, there's also a Virtual Console announcement following the reveal trailer of a certain Smash Bros fighter. That is a game I will bring up once it's officially released. For now, here's this week's release for 11/6/2014:
Wii U Virtual Console: Super Mario Advance (GBA) $7.99 3DS Virtual Console: Pokemon Puzzle Challenge (GBC) $4.99 Ooh boy. Here we go again. First Nintendo double-dips with Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, and now they're doing it with Super Mario Advance. This was one of the first games Nintendo released in which they went full-on George Lucas by remaking their games... and I really hated the way they did this with Super Mario Advance. The game is a remake of Super Mario Bros 2... but an ENHANCED remake that involves adding in extra hearts, bigger enemies, and new bosses such as the giant mechanical Birdo replacing, adding in modern Mario voices and sound effects and a Yoshi challenge. All of which, were not in SMB2. Yeah... you see what I'm talking about? This is a perfect example of Nintendo taking one of their old games, and making them NEW again. It especially irritated me looking back at seeing them doing this in the GBA era, because it felt like they were doing nothing but attempting to bring back the glory days of the Super Nintendo. I recall AGentertainment made a video about this, and I agree with what he had to say. Bottom line, stick with the original SMB2... do not waste your time with this crap. Anyway, this month, and they're holding a deal where if you download any Pokemon game, including Puzzle Challenge from the 3DS eShop, you'll be able to get a special demo version of Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire. Personally, I already received the download code in the mail, so this doesn't apply to me. But now, for Poke-fans, you have a reason to get one of the titles off the eShop. |

Week of 11/13/2014:
Wii U Virtual Console: Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA) $7.99 3DS Virtual Console: Pokemon Trading Card Game (GBC) $5.99 With this being the week the Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack comes out, it seems that releasing Mario Kart Super Circuit on the Wii U Virtual Console was appropriate for that. This was one of the games that was included in the 3DS ambassador's program, and now you can play it on the Wii U. I know I gave my criticisms on the original Super Mario Kart. But me personally... Super Circuit was actually my all-time LEAST favorite Mario Kart game. Not only were the graphics crap, but it felt very hard for me to steer in this one... even more so than the SNES game. In fact, I found Konami Krazy Racers to be a much better game than Super Circuit. Now THAT'S something I'd like to see come to the Wii U Virtual Console. Pokemon month continues with the Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy Color. This is a game I had a lot of memories playing. In fact, I might still have that limited edition Meowth card that came packaged with the game. The game did get a sequel in 2001 that used cards based off Gold and Silver... but that, unfortunately, never arrived in America. Now THIS is a franchise I'd like to see Nintendo and Game Freak revisit and make a new game for the 3DS. It is long overdue. Just like before with Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, Pokemon Trading Card Game also grants you with a special demo version of OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire. |

yeah, super circuit had some pretty bad framerate, and i didn't feel much for the control either. as for the pok'emon trading card game, i never got to play the gameboy color take on it, but then again i quickly lost interest in the actual card game after about a year.
hope we get the donkey kong country trilogy next month, since europe's had it during october. Nintendo Network ID: Benjamillion

Before I layth onto this week's releases tomorrow, I also wanted to bring up this post by Sakurai on the Smash Bros Pic of the Day Miiverse page.
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAADRUqGkwsIP4w Sakurai's pic of the day reveals more details on the Masterpiece section in Super Smash Bros for Wii U. Mostly the same thing as in Brawl, but there's a lot more of them, and there's some you can unlock. Also, on a side note. Sonic the Hedgehog is STILL not on there. Why? Because Sega still refuses to release their Sega Genesis titles on the Wii U VC. SAKURAI: "Some of the Masterpieces aren't unlocked at the beginning of the game. It's impressive that there are even games from the Game Boy. Some games have different starting points, while others come loaded with save data." ME: In other words... they're timed demos. Basically an advertisement for the Virtual Console games on the eShop. Although, it is interesting that Game Boy titles are included. |

I bought the Mario Kart 8 DLC a couple days ago. I'm loving it. It's a fantastic value, and the tracks are diverse as are the additional characters. If Nintendo does DLC like this all the time, they got my money.

With a lot of us having our bodies ready for Super Smash Bros for Wii U, there's still more Virtual Console releases. Here's this week's releases for 11/20/2014:
Wii U Virtual Console: DK: King of Swing (GBA) $6.99 It's no Donkey Kong Country, but I do find this to be a fun and underrated game on it's own. It's very similar to Clu Clu Land in many different aspects, and even has Bubbles as an unlockable character. Still, better than playing Watch_Dogs on Wii U. LOL... once again, F**K you, Ubisoft for screwing over Wii U owners with that title. |
