looks like net neutrality officially ends tomorrow. anyone else disappointed that we won't have freedom to browse the internet anymore?

I'm curious to see how it plays out. No organization is as corrupt or inept at running anything than our government, so I will wait and see how the free market handles things and then pass judgement.

I foresee new competition coming in to shake things up and offer services that do not limit or nudge us toward their own handpicked sites, speeds, and bandwidths... possibly at much better rates. Time will tell though.

well to update the repeal on net neutrality won't take effect for another two months, although changes will slowly be made as the weeks pass.

on a lighter note a congress hearing is scheduled in another couple of weeks giving the possibility of that one last senate vote that's needed to prevent the repeal completely. i for one am actually looking forward to that vote because paying transactions to use skype, youtube and other daily activities would hamper the already tight bills and monthly grocery shopping that my parents and i already paying for.

Companies like YouTube would not stand for that. I imagine new solutions will present themselves in that case. But as I said, we won't know until we cross those bridges.

Personally, I can't picture Net Neutrality being permanently gutted. Not unless the United States somehow ends up turning into a dictatorship. Yes, it may end up being an uphill battle with all the states suing the FCC, and states passing laws to still keep Net Neutrality rules in place under government contracts. But in the long run, with how unpopular the gutting of Net Neutrality is across people of all different political spectrums (there's been studies that has shown that 85% of Americans are against the FCC's decision, a very high number), then we're likely going to see Net Neutrality become reinstated.

If, somehow, Net Neutrality does end up being permanently gutted, and we never get back ever again, that would leave me gravely concerned for the future of the United States. It would leave us on a very dangerous path if the FCC had everything their way despite such an unpopular move.

The FCC (government) had everything their way already. They dictated the terms of service to the providers. They're giving up that power (a rare move in government). Still, it's uncertain how this will play out. Could be good... could be bad. Just have to wait and see. I just can't imagine ISPs making things difficult for their customers and NOT having to face the consequences via better, newer providers who're willing to give folks what they want.

well seeing how we've foiled SOPA and PIPA's plans in trying to rid us of the internet altogether i'm sure there's a glimmer of hope before the last months tide over.
