I wonder if Nintendo will do a "Halloween" themed set of releases one week?

I would hope so. Last year, they released Castlevania: The Adventure and Ghosts and Goblins on the 3DS Virtual Console. I'm hoping this year, they do something Halloween themed for the Wii U Virtual Console. The Castlevania trilogy would be nice, though that's the type of thing that would be up to Konami.

Week of 10/24/2013:

Wii U Virtual Console:

Baseball (NES)
$4.99

Pinball (NES)
$4.99

3DS Virtual Console:

Star Soldier (NES)
$4.99

As far as the Wii U lineup goes, this is yet, ANOTHER crappy week of releases for that system. Again, $4.99 for Pinball and Baseball is WAY too much. Although, I did enjoy Pinball on NES. I had the e-Reader cards and unlocked it on Animal Crossing for Gamecube. Still, I hate how Japan gets all the good titles, and Nintendo of America drops the ball with crap like this.

Speaking of which, Capcom stated last week that the Gameboy Mega Man titles are supposed to come, but it's taking them a lot longer due to "Nintendo's Virtual Console lineup being too busy". Oh yes, they're Virtual Console lineup sounds so busy that they're giving us a bunch of forgettable crap releases like what they gave us for this week, not to mention that the 3DS has been slowing down on their VC releases. Yeah, I find that to be more bullshit from Capcom.

Though the 3DS game that we got for this week looks pretty good. In fact, that's the type of game that should be released on the Wii U Virtual Console... I mean hell, they haven't been giving them all the unforgettable sports crap.

However, there is good news. Nintendo is indeed releasing something good on the Wii U Virtual Console for next week on Halloween day. I'm not going to say what it is now, but it's something that I'll post when it's released next week.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everybody! Well, okay, it's the day after Halloween. I would have updated yesterday, but I was at a Halloween party, so I didn't have the time. So, without further ado, here's what we have for Nintendo's Halloween lineup for the week of 10/31/2013:

Wii U Virtual Console:

Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
$7.99

3DS Virtual Console:

Milon's Secret Castle (NES)
$4.99

Yes, Nintendo delivered this year with Super Castlevania IV as their Halloween game. It's not very likely we're ever going to get Zombies Ate My Neighbors due to LucasArts being out of business, so the old Castlevania titles is the next best thing. And considering that I own Castlevanias I-III on the Wii VC, then I might get Super Castlevania IV on the Wii U VC.

Week of 11/7/2013:

Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console:

Wario's Woods (NES)
$4.99

A simutaneous release on the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Consoles? Holy crap! I did not expect that at all. I wonder if they'll do the same thing when Super Mario Bros 3 comes out. That's a game that's also been announced on the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Consoles.

Anyway, I always enjoyed Wario's Woods. Some of you may know about the review I made a few years ago. In fact, when I was recording the gameplay footage of it, the music drove my sister to the point of insanity that she started to hate the game. For that I say, tough break to her.

Personally, I wish Nintendo would release the SNES version on the Virtual Console service. It seems like Nintendo only releases the NES version, and never the far superior SNES version. We got the NES version not only on the Wii Virtual Console, but also as an unlockable NES game on Animal Crossing. The NES version is still good and I like that the 8-bit charm of it, not to mention it had the honor of being the last game in the NES library. I just wish the SNES title would get more love from them.

Also, speaking of the Virtual Console service, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata brought it up in a recent Q&A. It's no secret that a lot of people, including myself, feels that the Wii U Virtual Console is pretty weak so far... and Nintendo's president achknowledged it with this statement:

"In
terms of taking greater advantage of our previous assets, I feel that
there are two points to consider. As we first began to do on Wii, one
method would be to release games for our previous consoles, such as
Nintendo Entertainment System or Super Nintendo Entertainment System, on
other Nintendo consoles as Virtual Console games. While Wii U and
Nintendo 3DS already offer Virtual Console software, I feel that we have
not been able to take full advantage of our assets yet, so we would
like to enrich our Virtual Console lineup..."

To the best of luck, Mr. Iwata. Though, my main concern is more about how the Wii U Virtual Console has done almost nothing but release games that's already on the Wii Virtual Console, while Japan and Europe has been getting far superior releases. In America, the lineup ranged from average titles to occasional classics. The closest the Wii U Virtual Console got at full force is Earthbound for the first time in almost 20 years.

Plus, the Wii U Virtual Console has been a step back from the Wii Virtual Console. The original Virtual Console not only had games on Nintendo systems, but other classic game systems like the Sega Genesis, Turbografix-16, and the NeoGeo. Although, we're probably never going to get the Turbografix-16 again due to Hudson being out of business. Still, the Wii U Virtual Console is all NES and SNES games. The announced a while ago that games for the N64, GBA, and Gamecube are also supposed to arrive on the Wii U VC, but Nintendo has said nothing about them since.

The 3DS Virtual Console, on the other hand, is fine for the most part. My main concern about it is that we seem to get more NES games on there than Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Game Gear titles. Though, I do wish Sega would not only include the Sega Genesis on the Wii U Virtual Console, but also include the Saturn and Dreamcast while we're at it. Ah... but that's probably not going to happen.

So, does no company own property rights to the TurboGrafix-16 hardware then? Not that I can ever imagine a scenario where someone would make a cheap console that plays those games, but just out of curiosity...

I really enjoyed Bonk's adventure. There were actually several TG16 games I liked quite a bit. Including Splatterhouse, Bonk, Alex Kidd, a basketball title that I can't recall the name of, and others.
