Much anticipated, and ultimately rejected. I'm sure it was a lot of work. The reaction, justified as it was IMO, must have been incredibly disheartening for Vertex. It's really too bad, and a shame. I wish it had not been done. I wonder how he feels about it.

I think it was his attempt to jump onto the whole "web 2.0" design fad. Overrated if you ask me. Yeah, things look sleeker and "more professional" as a result. But there's no character in web 2.0 design. I prefer the "Geocities" cheapness and gaudiness. But that's just me.

Well it would make sense to keep Geocities since it is a retro site after all.

Vertex put the nail in the coffin when he decided to revamp the entire site and remove/break existing features that everyone had grown accustomed to. Or at least I had. I did not like it at all. And now no one visits his site and lost all that Ad revenue.

You're a design wiz Linux... what are your thoughts on the whole web 2.0 thing?

Sometimes that pays off. Look at Myspace and Facebook. You could have animated gifs, background music and custom backgrounds on your page, but people opted for the sterile look of Facebook. Perhaps Vertex was trying to bring an aging site into a modern world.

I still argue that, along with the 'update', the quality of new members went a long way in running a lot of people off.

I'm not sure if some of them were trolling or just THAT weird, but man, there were/are some real winners.

It also didn't help when every new thread turned into "HEY WHAT HAPPENED TO RETROJUNK!?" and "HEY, U REMEMBER SMURFS?"

Clearly this man was an idiot to not know those were Genesis games.

Caps 2.0
After the update, a lot of the people who supported my writing left the site. My last few articles only got single digit ratings, with one even landing on the back page, something that hadn't happened for me in years. When my interview with Jewel Shepard only got a rating of 5 and only one comment, I knew it was time to search for a new site for my writing. I still submit videos and movie and TV shows pages to RetroJunk, and I still moderate the message boards, but all my writing from 2014 onwards has been for Pop Geeks. My articles have been more successful on Pop Geeks than they were on RetroJunk near the end of my time as a writer there. My interview for Pop Geeks with E.G Daily currently has 105 Facebook likes, and my editorial about my feelings on the "Jem And The Holograms" movie trailer is in the 70s when it comes to Facebook likes. That's progress.
