I'm willing to give it a chance. A show like Tales from The Crypt or The Twilight Zone seems pretty well suited to him and his penchant for twist endings. Will it be different? Of course it will but then the beloved 80s and 90s version was different from the 1970 movie which featured Sir Ralph Richardson as The Crypteeper. That too was different from the 1950s comic books.

Yet another thing for Shymalan to ruin. Nope....

TNT has been about the drama genre for a lot of years, so we might not see too much of horror in this reboot.

The twist at the end of the series will be that The Cryptkeeper merely dreamed the whole thing up. It was never really a greenlit series.

I might check this out. I have fond memories of watching the '90s series as a kid. The Crypt Keeper not being in it is disappointing, but I can deal with it. The optimist in me hopes that things might get worked out so that he appears should the show get a second season, but him not appearing isn't a deal breaker for me. The idea of serialized storytelling rather than anthology stories is going to be really different, but I understand the decision to go in that direction considering that television has become more serialized in recent years. I think that whether or not that format will work for this show as well as the anthology format worked for the classic version will depend on how well the story is written. I'm not that familiar with M. Night Shyamalan, so I can't comment on whether or not his involvement will be a good thing or a bad thing.

If it doesn't have the crypt keeper, and isn't a new 'story' each episode or anything which made it like the original. Then this isn't going to be Tales from the Crypt. It's going to be something thrown together by Shyamalan with the hopes of dragging viewers into this trap by the popularity of it's namesake.

I can't see this series doing well without Cryptkeeper. "If you think a 401K is your mother-in-law's bra size, you might be a redneck."

This article says that despite earlier reports, there will be a Crypt Keeper, but he'll be reinvented. I'd rather have him back just the way he was, but having a reinvented Crypt Keeper is still better than no Crypt Keeper at all. |
