Recreating the feel of Saturday mornings

The constant revisits of weekends from our childhood sometimes started out the same way, our parents either let us have the enjoyment of relaxing to a bowl of cereal as a morning block of cartoons ensued or they may have started differently with them rushing us to eat and go out and go somewhere, in most cases we looked forward to new episodes of our favorite shows during the entirety of the block and then proceed to go outside when it was all over. But with modern technology and the convenience of some of our once favorite shows now viewable in high definition it's still possible to recreate your own schedule of Saturday morning cartoon viewing. But first, what cereal to choose?

Although some limited time cereals have been long gone for years (and inedible) as of writing this review French Toast Crunch and Pop Tarts cereal have recently made a comeback.

The default cereals such as Cap'n Crunch and Cocoa Pebbles are your best bet to go to since other previous limited time cereals that previously got discontinued are scarce. Aside from the two I just mentioned I also prefer Froot Loops, Count Chocula and Lucky Charms, even though the original marshmallow shapes are long gone. With that said and done, how about we move on to the procedure of finding cartoons and live action shows?

The most basic source of classic shows has since been the DVD format, but other familiar shows such as the 1994 Spider-Man series can be purchased digitally on Prime TV if you have an Amazon account while Youtube has recently been providing classic shows for purchase, like Ducktales and Freakazoid in their entirety. Speaking of Ducktales I'd recommend buying the seasons on Youtube, since the pilot episodes are missing from the volume 1 DVD set.

Secondly if you want that old VHS quality feel of viewing commercials and tv bumpers, Youtube is filled to the brim with them upon doing a search, or even better, finding a playlist of them to play a handful at once, just make sure you're far away from your HDTV, because the quality can vary and might hurt the eyes.

As most have moved on to mostly high definition televisions now, systems like the Retron 5, NES and SNES Classic Edition are my best recommendations for playing familiar classics as you hold the controllers you grew up with helping give that nostalgic feel.

If you need a break from shows, some of your favorite games from the past can also be playable. From The Legend of Zelda, to Super Metroid and whatever games you've kept for your Retron 5 (assuming you have one), all three of these plug and play systems are perfect for the occasion for playing a big library of the games you grew up with that's not only easy on the eyes, but with the convenience of save states to help out on those frustrating levels you many have trouble with. With the bonus of adding more games to the NES and SNES Classic Editions, the amount of replay value will keep your head spinning for weeks, maybe even months.

How would you recreate your Saturday mornings? Leave a comment and as always, see you next article!
