Oh how I love "Duck Amuck", crazy-good fun.

Now if you really wanna talk weird say "Captain Kangaroo" from the 50's and 60's. The show teamed up with Paul Terry's, Terrytoons Studios to create an in-house cartoon series called "Tom Terrific".

Dude, Tom Terrific is too awful to link to here. Don't waste your time searching, this cartoon can only damage your IQ score.

I enjoyed Captain Kangaroo as a kid. Here we had our own version of him, simply called Mr. Cartoon and Beeper, his costumed sidekick.

In the Tidewater Area we had "Bungles" the Clown. When I moved to Phoenix, they had "Wallace and Ladmo". In the Seattle area it was J.P.Patches and Gertrude".

Local kids shows were always interesting and made a nice contrast to Captain Kangaroo.

When you think about all the characters from the Sunday Newspaper Funny Pages, does it seem to you that "Dick Tracy" would be a natural for an animated series? And yet most folks have never seen a Dick Tracey cartoon while the few that have were not impressed.

Dick Tracy never found the right formula to become a popular animated series.

The strangest take on Dick Tracy actually comes from Filmation in 1973. As part of "Archie's TV Funnies", the Filmation Dick Tracy, for the first time, included all the supporting characters from the actual Sunday comic strips. They included Tracy's partner Sam, Junior with his flaming red hair, Moon Maid also made an appearance. Filmation even included Tess! Hadn't seen Tess in a while!

Hate to say it, but Filmation Dick Tracy was done on a shoestring budget so the artwork was spotty, but the cartoons were short and fast-paced enough that there wasn't enough time in an episode to criticize their efforts.

Go to the kitchen to get a glass of orange juice, the cartoon was over when you got back.

John Erwin!!! That's John Erwin as Dick Tracy! A nearly full 10 years before his voice would be known the world over as He-Man... most powerful man in the universe!

YES!!!

That's what makes Filmation so memorable, their roster of famous voice talent was deep. Ted Knight found a home with Filmation as a character voice and narrator.

UPA tried to expand its list of characters since the 1950's, but none of them have the popularity of Mr. Magoo. To compete with Filmation and Hanna-Barbera, UPA released an updated Mr. Magoo as an action hero meeting famous historical figures called, "The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo". The results were mixed but there was one episode where Mr. Magoo meets Dick Tracy and helps him solve a crime. My search came up empty though.

I found the intro, maybe you guys remember this:

Rocko's Modern Life

When you see this, you start to think "How did Nickelodeon get away with making stuff like this?!"  Some people like weird stuff. Just look at the people of Austin, Texas. "Keep Austin weird" they say lol.

Well, O-Town is a lot like Austin. There's never a day where everything IS normal.

Woah DUDE!

I had already signed out this morning when it hit me.
This is a still from that awesome Daffy Duck Looney Tunes spoof on Dick Tracy from the 1940's.

Crow, You Are Amazing!!!

Daffy has to take on the worst of the worst. Neon Noodle, Pickle Puss! What'd he do with Chowder Head?

One of the great W-B cartoon scenes in animation history!
