The plot to the cartoon is similar to the comic used as the backstory for Nintendo Power. But instead of high school students, it involved video game testers. It also had a better story than what was used in the cartoon. The comic was also considered more canon to the video game.

Also, despite having the same name, the David Wise who wrote this cartoon is NOT the guy that composed music for Rare. He was a writer for a number of cartoons throughout the 70s-90s. Namely, some Transformers episodes as well as the first five episodes of the TMNT cartoon.

I often wondered if the Battletoads cartoon was a real thing or just a concept. It's really cool to see the actual cartoon on screen. Even though it's pretty awful. lol
