Since Valentine's Day is a month away, since post our favorite love songs. They can be retro or beyond retro.

Here's a very well-known one.

It's a cover of Bryan Adams' song, but I always preferred this version

I listened to this song over, and over, and over again in high school. That's because I had a big crush on a girl named Penny. This brings back memories every time.

@massreality:

I haven't heard that one in years.

@Vapor:

Pure 80s magic.

Crow, I'm so glad you posted this - I really need a break from the News this week!

When it comes to love songs for Valentines I have a few old favorites from my high school years. The music we hear as we grow up plays a part in shaping who we are as adults. No words can describe what it was like for me as a HS freshman to hear love songs like this, back when the world was friendly.

You make it sound so good, edd. I wish I could've seen a friendlier world in those days.

When you think of love songs, you think of jazz standards. I wish Johnny Hartman had more recognition. He had a tremendous voice.

Well since you guys were going old school, I thought I'd share one of my favorites from the 50's/60's. I always associate the song with a particular episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but its still fantastic.

OMG, you guys are gonna make me cry here.

Crow, how did you know about Johnny Hartman? He's suppose to be a secret just between me and the barbershop boys. Have you been talking to ol' Frank Sinatra again?

And wassup with massreality going directly to the most awesome version of "I Only Have Eyes For You" ever recorded? I swear I thought only my old school boys even had a clue about this music. It's Frankie again, isn't it? What do I have to do to keep Sinatra quiet around you guys?

Well, looks like I have have to bring it back to my high school years again.

All you guys that know me from Retro Junk know that I like to repeat myself, often. So let me re-state for the record, the years 1971 to 1974 saw what, to my opinion, has to be the most eclectic mix of music ever to be broadcast over the public airwaves.

If you think the 70's is all about Elton John, the Bee Gee's or Disco; I can post otherwise. I have 70's Love Songs for early Valentines that can make ya wanna hold your sweetie nice n' tight right now. Now I'm fully aware that Barry Manilow has become something of a joke in today's online world, But when I was a freshman in high school Manilow was new to radio listeners. Under contract with Bell Records, Barry Manilow's first records were a flop.

It was Clive Davis and his acquisition of Bell under the new Arista Label that gave Barry a second chance to make a new first impression - and lordy did he ever!

Please, please, try to imagine. There was a time when love songs like this poured out of my pocket radio.

I tried, but he won't take my messages. He's a tough guy to get in contact with.
