Sven Hoek from Ren and Stimpy.

I get the feeling if John K didn't get fired the way he did, we may have seen another episode or two with him. The most we got from him afterwards was in some non speaking background cameo during the Bob Camp era.

How he and Ren are related, I have no clue. Ren is smart, but Sven...not so much. Just another Stimpy.

Seen a lot of cartoons over my lifetime but nothing surprised me as much as the "Jackie Chan Adventures". Nothing else on Saturday mornings came closer to being an animated soap opera.

With all due respect to Jackie Chan, the series would have fallen on its face without "Uncle".

Just like Master Splinter, Uncle is the glue that holds the series together, and as such I feel he was underrated by many fans of the show. Maybe Uncle was considered "comedy relief" for his one-liners. But I'm certain that the humor was a cover for a character that kept Jackie one step ahead of the bad guys.

When Tohru joined the J-Team, he and Uncle made quite the pair. Tohru's funny side emerged and Uncle had an ally to shoulder more of the series humor.

I've always thought that Pokemon, "Indigo League", needed an "Uncle"-like character to keep Ash grounded in a fatherly sorta way. Professor Oak was too far away and only played an infrequent role, so by default, that role was played by Brock, imho.

This family of unknown fleas got their own episode on Tiny Toon Adventures, but they never got a following after that.

It was fascinating how Tiny Toon Adventures would drop an idea, almost like an experiment, and see if it gets any traction. There were lots of ideas but the way broadcast TV works it's not the best medium for immediate feedback on which ideas get a following.

I was always afraid that the entire Tiny Toon series was underrated. It wasn't until I landed on Retro Junk that I found fans of the series. (and here at R-D too.)

When Gary Owens died last year we all lost a very dear friend in the world of animation voice acting. Gary once told Johnny Carson on the "Tonight Show" that of all the characters he did, Roger Ramjet was his favorite.

Roger Ramjet is America's Original "Clueless" Hero. I figured the show was funny cuz my parents always died laughing, while I was scratching my head.

Here's a clip that mercifully ends before that embarrassing scene when the Secretary of Defense hangs-up on Roger Ramjet, America's Greatest Moro . . . Hero!
