Yeah, okay... No. It's pretty obvious what they've gone for here, me it's nothing I want anything to do with. Again, I was expecting something wild and crazy. Not a coming of age story.

Not all adaptions/remakes are winners, and I don't think the actress knows that.
Anyone remember this other movie based on a female rock group? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0236348/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt "If you think a 401K is your mother-in-law's bra size, you might be a redneck."

thecrow174 wrote :That has nope written all over it. But personally I think the studio itself has little to no faith in this unlike Hasbro's other products turned movies. Transformers might not be that good. But it makes profit and MLP is getting a second shot at the big screen in 2017 and I have no idea about G.I. Joe though I heard rumors of a G.I Joe and transformers crossover. |

The trailer made me think "I don't like what I see here," not "oooh there's a bunch of stuff missing." Jerrica doesn't need a record label who would push her into abandoning her friends to make up her visual and musical style, no matter how much she learns a lesson about sticking by them in the end. It doesn't fit with her character. This is not a mere toning down or getting kid-friendly. It's a 180° change in direction. Serious weaksauce.

Seeing the trailer inspired me to write an editorial for Pop Geeks about my feelings on it, which, as implied earlier in the thread, are mixed: http://popgeeks.net/truly-truly-truly-confused/

I find what Stefanie Scott said really hard to believe.
She is right about the fact that you can't show everything in the movie all in one trailer. Especially when they're trying to surprise you in the actual film. But at the same time, the trailer also needs to excite the audience. Even if what she says is true and the movie actually does turn out to be a faithful adaptation of the original show, the damage is already done, and the movie isn't likely to succeed because of it. I know my first thoughts on the trailer that I mentioned earlier in this thread is that they're trying to target a different audience. Though that was when my mind was still processing what I've seen in the trailer. If it were under a different name, I'd still stand by it. But the fact of the matter is that people were expecting much better from the movie. I really do think that a movie based off Jem and the Holograms, if done properly, could turn out to be amazing. Especially when it's brought through in this modern digital age. The fact that it ended up being something different is a complete letdown. I kind of hope that what she said is true and that the movie ends up being great, and that the person who made the trailer just royally screwed up. But from what I've seen, I can't really picture seeing this movie doing anything to redeem itself. It sounds like Stefanie said this as a damage control statement. |

Interesting essay, Caps.
I don't categorically denigrate new versions. There's lots of cover songs I like. Some better than the originals. I haven't seen the new Mad Max movie yet but it looks awesome. TMNT have gone through many incarnations, and (latest movie notwithstanding) I like most of them better than the Fred Wolf cartoon. But in allowing myself to have conflict with new versions, I don't have any inner conflict. It's OK to say something is bad. Andrew Garfield Spider-Man reboot: pointless. LoZ Skyward Sword: annoying AF. Jem & the Holograms movie: runs roughshod over major facets of the cartoon, whether or not Synergy is there. blueluigi wrote :Yup! PS: Jem looks really happy and surprised about the prerecorded sound that's coming out of her guitar all by itself. |

I agree with what she says. Especially the point of comparison with Transformers. And I like the plot expansion she made up. The movie would be alright with me if it turns out like that. But I think it's a long shot.
