8167GodzillaI think we're all placing too much faith in a shallow medium, the action film. Ask anyone what their favorite movie is and 3 out of 4 times it will be a movie that wasn't really over the top. Just like most people wouldn't name a candy bar as their favorite food.

I watch all action movies with no preconceived notions and no great expectations.
vkimoMay 16, 2014View

For all its faults, Godzilla (2014) has brought us the definitive Godzilla design and a worthy origin story. echidna64May 16, 2014View

I'd give it a C+/B-

For a movie about a giant lizard it gets a lot of thing right and starts off pretty promising but aside from Cranston and Watanabe, the cast is a complete bore. I hate to admit it, but I actually longed for Matthew Broderick or Hank Azaria to show up for some much needed commentary.

The movie does create an awesome mythology with a potential for sequels. However, this Godzilla reboot is all about stopping MUTO. Godzilla feels demoted to only second fiddle with little screen time and as a solution to MUTO.

The final fight scene is cheer envoking but the movie never elevates beyond "disaster porn." Whether a CGI building falls overs or a CGI building gets hit by a CGI tsunami, it all feels the same and there's neither remorse nor consideration for all the people swept under.

-end quote

What they did leading up to it is what killed it for me and I walked out. Even if the final fight was awesome. What I had to sit through would not make up for it. I'll wait until the end of the weekend to get into detail on it since I consider what they did a spoiler.
ThatDudeintheHoodieMay 16, 2014View
