Retro Things You Can Do While in Self Isolation
The past few weeks of 2020 has been for lack of a better word, crazy, but fear not, though while people are reading this in the comfort of their own home, I shall provide a small list of things you can do that are retro, with some modern means, to help while current events blow over.
Hometown Drives with Retro Music
In a different state than where you came from? Homesick but can't travel? Well here is a solution for you. Open Google Maps, find your home town, find a playlist on your favorite music streaming service, and "Drive" around your hometown or places you loved going to with Street view.
This is something I normally do, memories of what was floods my mind everytime, like "This was so and so's place" or "I remember what used to be there." and so on. While not entirely retro, it is something to get the nostalgia going.
Recreate Saturday Morning Childhoods
Want a little change to the usual TV watching? With the use of streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Disney +, ect, you could remake that Saturday morning of yesteryear with a big bowl of cereal. It'll take a little planning, such as what station you want to remake, what shows were on, and where to find those shows. But in the end, it is worth it. For added effect, you can find ad breaks on youtube to play when there is supposed to be an ad break.
While on the subject of recreating TV blocks, you can apply this to Friday nights with TGIF, Saturday nights with SNICK, and Sunday Nights with The Wonderful World of Disney. Other options is marathon old series, have themed classic movie nights, or if you liked watching ads from days gone by, there are plenty online you can watch. With media, the sky is the limit.
Playing Retro Games
Video Games are still a fairly new form of entertainment, but are a large part of childhood for many. So why not take out the old NES, Playstation, or N64 and blow into those old cartrages, pop in that disc and play a while? Don't have those? Well, there has been a surge of remasters and collections of old games for newer systems along side emulaitors for computers to play old games.
You can also do this with old computer games as well. Steam has some old games on it and of course, you can use emulaitors if you wish.
So while you're stuck at home and looking for ways to pass time while wanting to take a trip down memory lane, there are things you can do and have fun doing it. So go and enjoy yourselves and remember to live life and live nostalgic.
