Kids WB Music Star Blocks

 

 

 

      Kids WB was always known as the weird Saturday morning cartoon block, due to a few shows in it being more, out there before the anime take over of the block. Though the block had odd themes there were some that were unique to the block, some of these were showcasing musical artists. Which not many, if any, have done before the the two-thousands. So this will look over three of them.

 

Backstreet Boys Terrifying Tower Takeover (1998)
 
 
      The late nineties were all about two of the biggest boy band acts. N'Sync and Backstreet Boys. This one is about the later where they are promoting their at the time new hit song 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)'. In this they are inside the tower showing off the music video, showing behind the scenes clips, and interacting with Kids WB characters. 
 
      This was more or less the standard when it comes to celebrity hosts, especially musicians. They replay the segments on a loop through the block, sometimes mixing up the order that they are played. But it's the same thing.

      As mentioned before, the late nineties had two huge boy band acts, this one is about the other act, N'Sync. Now while this one had the standard character interactions, this one had a bit more of a spin. The setting for this one is a stage and the bumpers rotated between them singing and characters singing parody versions of their songs. 
 
      While I did say the block itself was created, the blocks with music stars are one note with some different things mixed in. 
 
 
BNL Day with Barenaked Ladies (1999) 
 

      Another band that made it big in the nineties was The Barenaked Ladies. While this one falls in the same style as the others, they did mix it up a bit and it has a bit of controversy too. Originally the special block was to be called Naked Day With the Band, but due to parental outcry, it was changed to BNL Day.
 
      While this does have the standard character interactions like the others, you can tell the band was having fun with it was was more expressive than others. Like the N'sync special, there were song parodies, but the band sang them themselves.
 
      This one is more spicing up the tired formula while still keeping it. It's nice that the band is having fun with the interactions, that they are doing their own thing. But it is the same formula.
 
      When it comes to the special blocks, the musician ones weren't the most creative. But they did have their moments. Though unlike other Saturday morning cartoon blocks, Kids WB put in enough effort to actually make it happen. So while the blocks themselves were cut and paste most of the time, the effort still shows to make them work. So until next time, Live life and live nostalgic.
