ThatDudeintheHoodie's Favorite Nontraditional Christmas Songs

After the turkey has been gobbled, naps have been had, and the madness of Black Friday has ended, it's time to get in the holiday spirit if you haven't already. That means if radios haven't started playing Christmas music, they are now. But if you're getting tired of the traditional songs, you're in luck because here are three songs that are about Christmas, but aren't the ones you hear on a regular basis. So for your listening pleasure, here is my list of personal favorites.

The Season's Upon Us - Dropkick Murphies

Christmas is about friends and family, but what if your family was as crazy as the one in this song? While this one is a bit more grown up in terms of lyrics, it is still a fun and real song about the holidays with family. Colorful relatives, crazy events, and in the perspective of a family member in the middle of it all that while he doesn't like most if not all his family, he knows that they are family and still tries to have a good time with them.

My Christmas List - Simple Plan

As kids, we all had ridiculous wishes for Santa, as a kid, I wanted a pet Pikachu. In this song it takes that and runs with it. With cars, a trip to Hawaii, a shopping spree in New York City, and more. This song takes it and has fun with the idea of wanting to get everything just to have it. The upbeat subject and instrumentals make this song a fun listen for the holiday season and a nice little nostalgia trip to those days of making your list for Santa.

Where My Christmas Lives - 3 Doors Down

I'm ending this list on something that sounds traditional, but is something different. The story of this song is about someone that misses home and asks his loved ones to light a candle as he says that he is coming home and that they are where his Christmas lives. The simplicity of the instruments and acoustic sound makes this song feel like home and is bound to be a classic staple, or at least that's what I hope.

Christmas is a magical time of year and I hope this helped you be a bit non traditional, while the holiday is about tradition, there's nothing wrong with going off the beaten path a bit. So from me to you all, have a Happy Yule and a Happy Holiday from yours truly and remember to live life and live nostalgic.

When it comes to Christmas music, I definitely tend to prefer the traditional songs. I like when contemporary artists do their own versions of the traditional songs. Once in a while a non-traditional song will catch my ear.

Some interesting choices here TDitH. I like them all. My own Christmas favorites are all pretty traditional. I think it is my list of Halloween tunes that is a bit more varied.
