My Birthday Days
I recently turned twenty five and I took time to look back at my life as I turn a quarter century old and remember the stuff I did for my birthday growing up. Thinking about how things have changed throughout my childhood to my adulthood. It’s an interesting thing, seeing what changed and what my mindset is now. So let’s see how things have changed with a walk down memory lane.
We all had at least one themed birthday as a kid. The ones I remember the most was an ocean, Loony Toons, Harry Potter, and Pokemon. I was and still am a huge fan of Pokemon so a themed party was going to happen one way or another, which it did. Alongside parties I had sleepovers with a few friends afterwards. They usually involved pizza, movies, video games, and cake. Favorite part though was just hanging out and talking to my friends while we played games. I can remember most of the conversations would be about school, new games, shows, or movies.
Yes, that was my cake.
I used to have days out as well with trips to the movies. Sometimes trips to the mall with a stop at the arcade within it. Other times it would be a day trip to just drive around on an adventure with my mother. Going to random places and what not. A couple times I recall going to Seabreeze for my birthday. Going on rides and having the time of my life. I also remember going to Funscape which was like Discovery Zone, but with much more to do such as motion rides, a mini golf course and a massive arcade alongside the gyms and ball pits. We wold go there after we would go to the movies since the two were connected.
A tradition of my family’s each year to this day is the birthday dinner. As a kid I had a few go to spots. One place I went to was the local Texas Roadhouse. It was a steakhouse chain that I loved going to while growing up. There were peanut shells on the floor, and the theme of the restaurant is what attracted me outside of the food. They used to serve drinks in mason jars and had tin buckets of peanuts on the tables with country music playing. After the only location near me closed down I went to Friendly’s or TGIF’s for my birthday and had burgers and milkshakes. I used to get a goblet full of ice cream for desert at Friendly’s. Another place I went to was Golden Corral during my stay in North Carolina. I enjoyed the buffet, as I went back for at least three plates of food then desert, twice. It was a nice treat to go to outside of my birthday as well.
As I got older things changed, what was having sleepovers with friends turned into dinner with family and friends. What were parties turned into fun evenings and nights at a friends place or mine hanging out and doing what we felt like, usually video games and Netflix with a few drinks and pizza, or going out to someplace nice. As life goes on things change and we grow out of things as well. While it’s a fact of growing up, it is a hard one to swallow at times especially hitting certain ages, but it doesn’t have to be the end of good times on someone’s birthday, it just happens in a different way. So to close, it’s nice to look back at previous birthdays and remember the fun times. But don’t think the fun ends just because you’re an adult now.
