Probably the James Bond that I was most familiar with growing up, and he did an excellent job of giving bond a more ornery side. He will be missed.

Did I ever tell ya that James Bond had a lot of competition?

Television in the 1960's could amaze with the sheer variety of secret agent/spy guys - plus a very unusual take on the genre:

Roger Moore as 'The Saint" - 1962 to 1969.

Nothing else was quite like "The Saint". Roger Moore played a man named Simon Templar, a modern day Robin Hood - "steals from the ultra rich to give to the poor but deserving".

TV shows about men who steal for a living can be graphic, but "Simon Templar" did it with style.

There's no doubt in my mind - The British invasion of 60's music was Nothing compared to the British invasion of television in the 1960s.

As James Bond, Roger Moore was one of many.

but as Simon Templar, "The Saint" was all Roger Moore! No one else could be Simon and in my opinion, "The Saint" could easily be rebroadcast today, and do quite well in the 21st century.
