I'll admit, I never thought about it before. I just subconsciously assumed he was discarded or given less prominence when popularity waned, as happened with Charlie Tuna, Spuds MacKenzie, or that other Will Vinton creation, The California Raisins.

On January 30, 1989, a man wielding a gun stormed into a Domino’s and took two employees hostage. The assailant, named Kenneth Lamar Noid, was apparently upset about the chain’s mascot. A police officer revealed that Noid had “an ongoing feud in his mind with the owner of Domino’s Pizza about the Noid commercials,” and thought the advertisements had specifically made fun of him.
