Alien was one of those movies that left a huge impression on me. The thought of something implanting it's spawn in my gut until it decides to burst out frightened me to death. Let alone having fifteen different mouths and acid blood.

Aliens was more of an action movie, but still excellent in it's own way.

Then the series jumped off a cliff. End of story.

Uhg.

Anyway, now the cast is reprising their roles (digitally anyway) in the form of an upcoming video game titled Alien: Isolation that is to be set 15 years after the events of the first film. BUT... the missions including the original cast are only available if you pre-order the game (this will most likely change once the game has been out for a while, as happens frequently).

I for one am interested. Especially since they seem to be painstakingly attempting to recreate the visual style of the first film. From Wikipedia:

Though the game is set in the future, the technology depicted in the game is made to look as if it were designed in the 1970s in order to match the look of the first Alien film.[10] To accomplish this, the studio is emulating the creative processes used on the actual movie, and available at that time.[15] The game's artists studied Ron Cobb's original concept art and used tablet computer versions of his drawing implements.[16] In-game objects must be derived from items available to the film's production,[17][18] while computers have monochrome displays and simple line graphics.[19] To create period authentic distortion on in game monitors, the developers recorded their in game animations onto VHS and Betamax video recorders, then filmed those sequences playing on an "old curvy portable TV" while adjusting the tracking settings

COOL.

Alien left a profound effect on me as well-

For a couple years, the most requested gift for my birthday was Alien vs Predator toys

As a 90's kid born in the late 80's, I actually saw the Alien movies in reverse, starting with Alien 3 (my dad had it on a VHS recorded from cable), then Aliens at a friends house, and finally Alien later on.

Speaking of video games, Alien vs. Predator 2 is one of the greatest multiplayer games of all-time! It's soooo fun to LAN! I love playing as the Praetorian alien and dropping down on marines/predators from above, lopping off heads with a tail whip.

Cinephiles often cite Star Wars and Alien as defining movie theater moments in their lives. For me, my Star Wars was Jurassic Park, and my Alien was a little movie called Starship Troopers

Like Alien 3, it could've done better than it did.

Echidna: Starship Troopers? Yeesh. One of my LEAST favorite Verhoeven films. Still, to each his own.

It might have to be a future article lol

Anyone have any thoughts on Alien 3?

@echidna: Yeah. It was sub-par. Still, it was better than Predator 2.

The graphics look pretty smooth.

It's not easy resisting the whole movie franchise thing. But in the case of Alien it got too watered down imo.
