Wii U Virtual Console:

Star Fox 64 (N64)
$9.99

Yet, another N64 game that made it's late Wii U Virtual Console entry after being released in Japan and Europe last year. One thing I will say about it though is that it's a better game to own than Star Fox Zero. A game that ended up being a disappointment due to it being mostly a remake of Star Fox 64 with motion control. It's also sad that Platinum Games wasn't able to unleash their full creativity when developing the game. It's really sad. Also, I may get flack for saying this, but I feel that Shigeru Miyamoto needs to step down when developing games for Nintendo. Or at the very least, get less creative control. He seems to be mostly focused on adding gimmicks to his games now than he is on making it really good. Star Fox Zero and Paper Mario are good examples of that.

But I think in general, it might be best to hold off on any Virtual Console releases that comes out at this point. Mainly because the Nintendo Switch is coming out. We have yet to see what they offer in their Virtual Console. They could allow gamers to upgrade their Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console games to the Switch with little to no cost. But you never know what they'll do. For now, I'm going to wait and see what Nintendo does for the Switch Virtual Console before I commit to buying any more games from the Wii U and 3DS eShop.

Wii U Virtual Console:

Flying Warriors (NES)
$4.99

Kung-Fu Heroes (NES)
$4.99

Little Ninja Brothers (NES)
$4.99

This week's releases are all games released by Culture Brain. Some of you might not be familiar with them as they develop mainly cult classics. They're still around, and they have made games for the 3DS, but they never get released in North America. In fact, after Culture Brain USA went out of business, their games have rarely left Japan. The only exception was Flying Dragon for the Nintendo 64, and that was published by Natsume.

Also, Flying Warriors was released in Europe for the first time after that was brought over to their Wii U Virtual Console service last year.

Wii U Virtual Console:

Bomberman 94 (TG16)
$6.99

Gradius (TG16)
$6.99

Well, isn't this convenient. After only a single release of Turbografx-16 games, Konami decided to wait until the very end of the Wii U life cycle before they released a few more. Konami, you suck. I almost want to get Super Bomberman R for the Nintendo Switch, but I really don't want to support Konami in their current state.

Wii U Virtual Console:

Mario VS Donkey Kong (GBA)
$6.99

After being out in Japan and Europe for so long, Nintendo FINALLY releases Mario VS Donkey Kong on the Wii U Virtual Console. Why it took them THIS long, I'll never know. With this release, it completes the set of GBA games that has been released as part of the 3DS Ambassador's Program in 2011. This was the only time GBA games were released on the 3DS, due to how limited the GBA emulation is on the 3DS. In fact, the GBA games on the 3DS Ambassador's program was not emulated, rather it used some of the GBA hardware that was still in the 3DS to where the games run natively on the system. As a result, the games lack the basic 3DS Virtual Console features like restore points, as well as disabling the option of Streetpass due to the games running in DS mode. But with the Switch coming out, maybe they will provide GBA games on there, which would lead us to being able to play both on the TV and on the go. That would be pretty sweet. I also wouldn't mind DS and 3DS emulation as
well.

That said, I recommend Mario VS Donkey Kong over the other games in the series. It was designed to be a successor to Donkey Kong 94, and it was a good one at that. The sequels, on the other hand, went to a direction that's more puzzle oriented. Nothing at all like the classic Donkey Kong gameplay you'd come to expect from Donkey Kong 94.

Wii U Virtual Console:

Ogre Battle 64 (N64)
$9.99

With Square-Enix distributing the North American Virtual Console release, you can't post screenshots on Miiverse. The reason for that is because they don't want users to spoil the game for anyone else playing the game for the first time. Never mind the fact that Miiverse as an option for spoiler tags, which hides such posts.

except only half of the people in the miiverse community use the spoiler button properly. the other half don't use them for games at all and just for meme posting or personal post purposes.
