Because precisely no one asked for it, Hollywood decided to go ahead and remake Ben-Hur. Charlton Heston must be rolling over in his grave right now. While the 1959 masterpiece was, itself, a remake of a 1925 version (based on a novel from the 1880's), it was easily an epic that was unmatched. I am really not interested in watching this CGI heavy crapfest. Far more impressive are the set pieces and practical effects that made Heston's Ben-Hur so amazing.

Really? Ben-Hur? I know it's a critical-acclaimed film, but I always found it to be to so slow paced and boring. Now they're remaking it?

The 50s Ben-Hur was such an expensive movie. One of the most expensive at that. So, where did they find the money to put this together?

Why? And it's not even somebody like Spielberg or Scorcese directing!

I like Morgan Freeman's acting, but this feels like a mistake.

Hollywood's lacking in new Ideas so they think they can turn a quick buck and cling to their former glory. Probably hoping they can profit off the younger crowd who's never even heard of Ben Hur. 

The Focus on the Family audio theater version of Ben Hur is really good. The daughter and I listened to half of it last night at bed time.

Other than money, where did they find the patience to do another Ben-Hur?

Reminds me of those twin guys from The Matrix Reloaded.

You're setting yourself up for a world of hurt remaking such a great movie. Even with CGI and modern movie making, the original is just so aesthetically spot on. I'd wager audiences who've never seen either would prefer the original having watched both.
