As I was made fun of a lot and found myself escaping into fantasy via movies and TV to escape my problems, this show hit too close to home for me to enjoy it. I watched it, but as with the Nicktoons of that era, it was more out of obligation than enjoyment. I preferred certain cartoons from the Disney Afternoon and those of Warner Brothers.

The Beets were good for a fictional rock group.

Doug's Christmas Story

The Bluffington kids play ice hockey while Doug's beloved dog Porkchop tries to rescue Beebe Bluff from the thin ice. You would think he's trying to save her, but that's not what it looks like to everyone else. And now they're all looking at Porkchop like he's Cujo or something.

This was probably the only Nickelodeon cartoon from the 90's I was never really into. I mean there were episodes I l liked of the show, but compared to other cartoons from the decade like The Angry Beavers, Rugrats, CatDog and Hey Arnold, Doug just never really held up in my eyes.

There's an interesting story behind Cleopatra "Dirtbike" Funnie.

In the October 1996 issue of "Disney Adventures" magazine, the "Name Doug's Brand Spanking New Baby Contest" was featured. To enter the contest you chose a gender as well as a name for the new baby in season 5. The winner got the honor to actually name the baby for the show. In the May 1997 issue of "Disney Adventures", the results from the contest were released and Brett Chatham of Blairsville, Georgia was the winner; the name he choose was, of course, Cleopatra Dirtbike Funnie.
