super mario 3D world had peach, and it was focused as a reimagined formula of the U.S. super mario bros. 2. the only problem is, that's the only mario game lately that i've felt where they put effort into a new installment and not a rehash. the first super mario galaxy did have substance, but the sequel didn't have the same cinematic feel in cutscenes as the first.

I really don't like 3D Mario games. 3D World feels like they are trying to get me to change my mind, and I think that's why they held Peach out of NSMB.

I played Galaxy 1 for two hours. I tried to give it a chance, but I ultimately took it back to the store, same day I got it.

Point taken. I also think the Gamepad feature is underutilized. There is so much more they could do with that.

SERIOUSLY!
I was so excited when I saw the first trailer for it on the Nintendo
Channel. Just an incredible missed opportunity there. Even Mrs steak was excited and she generally does not like playing console games. They displayed so many cool ways to use it, and I have really only heard about a few of them actually showing up in finished games. I think the
Wii-mote didn't have its potential fulfilled either.

I'm glad I didn't buy this console. The lineup is really disappointing. There are a few good games, of course, but not nearly enough to make it worthwhile. I need at least five great games to invest. Here is my list of games that I'm interested in for Wii U:

Bayonetta
Hyrule Warriors
Mario Maker
NES Remix
NES Remix 2
Nintendo Land

TWO of those are games I actually want. The rest are good filler that I would be willing to spend some money on, but filler nevertheless. They don't get to be reasons for me to buy the system in the first place.

I'm not interested in Splatoon because I thought it was a cool concept in De Blob and that game was not fun. I don't like Smash or Kart because I have no one to play them with regularly and I'm just not into those genres enough to play those games by myself.

I feel similarly about all the consoles this generation. There are only one or two physical releases I want.  I am interested in a slightly higher number of download games, but what if I don't like something? There are no returns or reselling.

I have my fingers crossed for NX. I don't know, though. I doubt it will be backwards compatible because of the tablet, so that's a handicap to library size right out of the gate. Which means to win me over, a great launch lineup and strong appeal to 3rd parties will both be mandatory.

Which games are those that you WANT? I own NES Remix 1 & 2, and Nintendoland. Both are good titles that put a new spin on classic franchises. I had mentioned before that I wish they would have taken the concept of the Remix games further, but still... good games, those.

nintendo land was alright, but it's another one of those games where it's better with friends, as you suggested with mario kart and smash.

as for hyrule warriors it's actually a bit on the short side, but hopefully the dlc will give it more replayability, i only say that because i don't own the game, i've just been told by a friend that it could've been longer.

mario maker, i'm still disappointed with its price tag, $30 at least should be appropriate for a simple level editor, not the usual $59.99.

seeing as how i own splatoon though, i can understand that more depth could've been in the game with features. nintendo has slowly been adding downloadable updates with new battle stages, and two new modes recently got put in the game, but hopefully before the end of the year there'll be much more than what the game had to offer when it released. and no, i won't be getting an amiibo just to add additional single player campaign levels.

The first two. The others are like light reading. Fun, but not fun enough or big enough to get me to buy a $300 machine on top of their own cost.

Ben I agree that $60 is way too much for Mario Maker.

I'm definitely hoping for the best with Codename NX... and I really do hope they do not screw up with that system. I do want them to stick with their good old focus on sticking to making their games fun, that is definitely true. But also, at the same time, they still need to make their next system competitive. Make it more powerful than both the PS4 and Xbox One, and making third party developers want to design for the system. However, I get the feeling they aren't going to be doing that this time around. Nintendo may have billions of dollars in the bank, but if they end up making the system into another dud with another attempt of a gimmick, and the system ends up crashing and burning, then I really think Nintendo's going to be in very deep trouble.

Here's an article about the problem with Nintendo that I really agree with

Sorry no clicky, I'm phoneposting

Nintendo's new president has been announced. Tatsumi Kimishima is now taking over Iwata's position as president of Nintendo.

Things can go either way with their new restructuring plans. He might not have that fun personality that Iwata had, but a good first sign that does give me a little bit of hope about Kimishima is the fact that he initially predicted the Wii U was going to fail. He knew Nintendo marketed that system poorly. Maybe he'll take Codename NX in a different direction the Wii U went through. I really hope so, because all of the rumors I've been hearing about Codename NX have been mostly negative, and I really want Kimishima to make sure that the system is done right. But we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah. Only time will tell. It would be nice to see Nintendo dominate the market again like in the old days.
