30799 | Last Movie You Watched | Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)<div><br></div><div>This was a decent enough movie. Good story and well executed. But too "adult". I'm sorry, but when these comic book films all try to go the way of The Watchmen or The Killing Joke, it's too much for me to enjoy. Not because I am so appalled by the excessive violence, adult tones, and foul language (though I don't care for it), but because it so out of place. I don't want to see my heroes and villains slicing each other to bits. I want to see a decent story play out. A really great story doesn't need to shock in order to create emotional response. I see this as lazy and infantile.</div><div><br></div><div>I won't even start on Gods and Monsters (2015). Marvel is no better, what with Daredevil and Deadpool. It's all so stupid to me. The Avengers was a fantastic film. It didn't need to resort to Deadpool level gross-out and potty mouth antics to be good.</div><div><br></div><div>2.5/5</div> | Vaporman87 | Apr 05, 2016

I'm sure the intent was to keep things purposefully vague in terms of the time period in order to appeal to as many people as possible, while still drawing on nostalgia to connect with people. All I know is that all this talk of Napoleon Dynamite has me hungry for tater tots for some reason. | Vaporman87 | Apr 05, 2016
30795 | Do you "fit in"? | I concur with shakin. That story of your Navy kid childhood is a nice bright spot. I am so glad you did not have to face the same trials as so many others from that day and time, at least for a while anyway. Brings a smile to one's face. | Vaporman87 | Apr 05, 2016

I love this movie as well, though I always placed it in the late 80's early 90's time period for some reason. 30791 | The Sports Thread | I was listening on the radio to the Reds opening day game, and at the time they were losing 2 to 1 and I figured they would go on to lose. They won 6 - 2. Needless to say, that was a nice surprise. | Vaporman87 | Apr 05, 2016

That's a great story, Edd. I know that feeling. When a song just sweeps you away into it and it suddenly feels like it's your theme song to whatever your're doing.<blockquote rel="eddstarr"><b>eddstarr wrote :</b><i><div style="font-style: normal;">Stuff I watched in '86 and '87 still stays with me. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Remember This?</span></div><div style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Note the reader card during countdown - 1986!</span></div><div style="font-style: normal;"><b style="font-size: 10pt;">-end quote</b></div></i></blockquote>Yes I do remember that. It's funny in that it captures the whole tone of 80's music and the music video revolution and turns it into a Nestle commercial. Great ad. | Vaporman87 | Apr 05, 2016 |
