37963New talent sometimes fails to catch on Good times. I wish radio stations were still like that. Payola and labels might have messed a lot of people up, but nowadays you have either Megacorp Autotune Popstars Revue, or 87,000,000 podcasts and music blogs to sift through. I can't stand the former or navigate the latter. It's like the worst of both worlds.shakin steakOct 08, 2017View
37962What did you eat?I stuffed myself on a grilled 4 cheese sandwich (muenster, provolone, mozzarella, and "steakhouse onion cheddar") on sourdough. shakin steakOct 08, 2017View

37960Select a Fitness TypeExcellent Videos!<div><br></div><div>Unbelieveable that an untrained bodybuilder would challenge a BJJ Master. The best part was Pedro visibly taking it easy on Lance. No doubt that Pedro could easily have inflicted more damage on Lance.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>But that UFC bout - what a match!</div><div><br></div><div>Yeah, I think Kimo was a little heavier than advertised but he used his power to stay off the mat for as long as possible. Now that's muscle power, yet Gracie still managed to totally out-skill his bigger opponent. Good thing Kimo tapped-out when he did or he would have sustained serious injury.</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;</div>eddstarrOct 08, 2017View

37958New talent sometimes fails to catch on You can say that again!<div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;">This is the part of growing up in the 1970's that few people believe. I could listen to my favorite radio station for 2-hours, and not hear the same song twice. WRAP-Norfolk had the "Traveling DJ" who would sample local talent on Fridays and would air church choirs, live on Sundays.</div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;">This was all a long time ago. And yet I still find all this a point of pride, there was a time when local radio stations were the "voice" of the community. Much of America's local charm was enhanced by independent stations serving the people who lived within the broadcast area.</div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;">Barbara Mason had her shot at stardom. Her untrained voice was evident and the selection of songs didn't help either. But at least Barbara had her chance!&nbsp;</div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal;">Imagine me and my friends as high school freshmen in 1973 with our pocket radios tuned to WRAP-AM. Barbara Mason comes on singing, "You Can Be With The One You Don't Love", loud enough for all the white kids to hear.</div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">My white friend, </span><b>Chip Nowinski</b>, yells over at us black kids:&nbsp;<i style="font-size: 10pt;">"<b>WTF is That - did someone just Die?</b>"&nbsp;</i><img src="http://www.retro-daze.org/images/smilies/MavLaughOutLoud.gif" style="font-size: 10pt;"></div>eddstarrOct 08, 2017View

37956The CaféAnyone else been following this entire "Szechuan Sauce" debacle McDonalds is in?<div><br></div><div>For those that don't know, every since that stupid show "Rick and Morty" made a reference to the szechuan sauce <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGRDCRuPklc">promotion</a> that McDonalds did for Mulan back in 1998, fans of the show have been demanding McDonalds bring back the sauce.</div><div><br>Well, McDonalds finally did it for one day today, but there are <a href="http://fortune.com/2017/10/07/mcdonalds-rick-and-morty-szechuan-sauce-shortage/">reports</a> about just how bad the promotion has gone down, with even some <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_HboVYEkWw">tales</a> of borderline riots and fights happening at McDonalds over it.</div><div><br></div><div>No offense to any Rick and Morty fans here on Retro Daze, but this entire fan base needs to grow up. They represent the worst qualities that can be found in a fan base.</div>Rick Ace RhodesOct 07, 2017View
37955New talent sometimes fails to catch on Oh, I don't know. Maybe I am missing something here but this sounds like something that would be right at home on the soundtrack of a blaxploitation flick. shakin steakOct 07, 2017View
