If you are a member of RetroDaze and don't at least "like" The Goonies, then perhaps a visit to your psychiatrist is in order.

That being said, I really enjoyed the film as a kid. It had everything you could want if you were a pre-teen like myself in 1985.

Richard Donner is now confirming that YES, there is going to be a sequel... and he wants the whole cast to come back. I'm excited... and a bit worried. BUT, if he can get Chris Columbus to write it, that's reason for much hope.

Goonies never say die!

I'd prefer a remake or reboot to the old cast coming back. I always get depressed when an original cast comes back as they're all older and almost kills the magic of the first movie.

Mr Magic
Chris Columbus is the genius behind epic films such as Home Alone 1 and 2, Mrs. Doubtfire and Bicentennial Man.

@vkimo: I agree to a certain extent, though I think it's possible to introduce new blood while paying homage to the old. Here for instance, I would be happy with the Goonies kids accompanying them on an adventure... maybe they get split up and have to find one another. It could work, I think.

More news on Goonies 2:

he Goonies 2
could possibly follow the adventures of the original gang and their own
kids, an idea that fans have discussed for years. The folks over at Cinema Blend have kicked around a number of possible ideas, including an R-rated sequel
designed to appeal to grown-ups who watched the original flick as kids.
Considering Spielberg is officially involved with the project, it’s
unlikely that the follow-up will journey in that direction.

Not sure how long we'll have to wait for a sequel, but apparently a Gremlins sequel (also written by Chris Columbus) is much further along.

I always thought it would make sense for a story in which Gizmo becomes a Gremlin. Maybe he is force fed by the bad Mogwais or something.

I did hear recently, though, that in the original script of the original film, Stripe was intended to be Gizmo as a Gremlin. I can see why way went the other way with it. Though it would have been a pretty awesome ride. The beloved adorable Gizmo turned into a vicious monster. I guess they didn't want to traumatize the audience that badly. Would have been quite the twist.

Yeah. I prefer my Gizmo, furry.

I think it would be neat if they introduced some third race of creature that both Gremlins and Mogwais had to defeat, together.
