Here's what I mean. Which cartoon would you watch if they both aired at 10am on a Saturday morning, "Space Ghost" or "Casper"?
For some people these cartoons are equivalent. But to me and my cartoon watching friends from the 1960's, the choice is easy for a cartoon snob - "Space Ghost". "Casper" is for preschoolers.
As a 60's kid, I was just as picky over my cartoon viewing as which breakfast cereal to eat. All my friends were picky consumers and we all had preferred cartoons all selected for Saturday morning.
Th idea that all cartoons are the same, just pick one, really bothers me. Only "A" list animators got a pass in my school. Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros., DePatie-Freleng, and Filmation. Jay Ward Studios always had Rocky and Bullwinkle, while Total Television Productions had Tennessee Tuxedo and Underdog. Terrytoons had Mighty Mouse, while UPA had Mr. Magoo and Dick Tracy. The New 3 Stooges cartoon from Cambria Studios got the snub from my classmates, and so did The Beatles TV Series from King Features Syndicate.
King Features Syndicate had a reputation as a "3rd Tier" animation studio and The Beatles TV series suffered from lack of interest by me and my friends. As a result, I'm only now seeing clips from The Beatles animated TV show - a result of being a cartoon snob!
Not all cartoons are created equal, don't cha know!
