Even before COVID-19, this world was still mad. And compared to the real world, this movie is actually pleasant. Boy, imagine if they remade this in today's setting.

It's about four hours long, but that's okay. It just you're getting fours of action and screwball comedy goodness. There's some big names in this film: Don Knotts, Buddy Hackett, Milton Berle, and Mickey Rooney.

The plot: This rich guy had just died and before he dies, he reveals a huge fortune that's been buried. So, a bunch go all over the country to try to look for the money. And that's when the hilarity enues.

Did I mention The Three Stooges make a cameo?

So, if you have the time to watch a four hour movie, give this one a try. I think you'll be thrilled.

This is a film that comes from a time when movie directors had reputations based on their body of work. In the case of Stanley Kramer this is a movie that caused constant comments, something along the lines of: "the director of Judgement at Nuremberg and Guess Who's Comming to Dinner . . . made THIS?".

Of course the answer is "Yes, Stanley Kramer was at the controls of this epic comedy and I have an observation.

The key to "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" is the key to Kramer's other movies - Spencer Tracy! When the lawman gets seduced by location of stolen money, that's the icing on the cake!

Lately I've been thinking about "All-Star" comedy ensemble movies. Few can match the scale of Stanley Kramer's epic comedy film but sometimes a smaller cast can make a film feel approachable.

The photo above is from "Clue" - 1985. Not as funny as "Airplane!" - 1980, but "Clue" has a real charm that allows the movie to feel more friendly especially when the jokes fall flat.
