Mr Magic
They're always there to cheer us up when we're having a bad day or when we just need comfort and joy. After all, laughter is the best medicine, right?

What funny shows give you that comfort and joy?

Cheers, Night Court, WKRP in Cincinnati, Three's Company, and a few more. These could typically make me forget my troubles for a bit.

By the way you set the question I'm thinking about TV shows that took me out of my everyday self and drew me into the characters world. My favorite British comedies did that and I'd like to talk up one in particular.

In the UK it was called, "The Good Neighbors", in the USA it went by, "The Good Life". I know you guys remember it, and this show really struck a chord with me. Credit to Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal, they were magic together on screen. Here's the lowdown:

The Good Life - His 40th birthday convinces Tom Good, (Richard Briers), to make a change. He talks his wife, Barbara, (Felicity Kendal), into giving up the so-called "middle-class rat race" and take up a life of simplicity and self-sufficiency.

They convert their suburban home into a farm, planting crops in the back garden and bringing in pigs and chickens (including a rooster they name Lenin). Having a farm next door comes as something of a shock to their social climbing, very proper neighbors, Margo and Jerry Leadbetter.

Margo can't bear having chickens roaming the back garden. She'll have to put up with it, though, since Tom, despite his desire for self-sufficiency, can't bring himself to kill the chickens.
First episode date: April 4, 1975 - Final episode date: June 10, 1978 - Network: BBC One.

I first saw this after I moved to Seattle in 1980. KCTS-9 ran British comedies every Saturday night, right up to 10pm.

@eddstarr: I've never heard of the show, but your description of the premise certainly sounds like a good one.

Three's Company and I Love Lucy is comedy gold too.

It's no secret that I enjoy Bewitched. Love Samantha's witchcraft shenanigans and Gladys being the total nutjob she is whenever Samantha uses her magic and no one believes her lol.
