Ever hear of the OUYA? Nice little self contained unit. It's Android so putting emulators on it is a breeze. $99. Plays PS 1 games flawlessly but had problems with N64 and PSP. But NES,SMS,SNES, GEN,GB,GBC,GBA,NGP, Atari2600, MAME work also. plus you can hook ext hdd to it to hold games...

Edit: Watch

Where has it been all my life?

As I saw the pic and read the description, this music played in my mind.

How about the game dev functionality? Doesn't it have something like that? At least, that's what I heard.

Yeah... I'm really not impressed with this device and have no use for it in any way whatsoever. Same goes with pretty much all the other Android powered devices. Just about everything I can do on it, I can do on my smartphone and tablet. Even playing it on the TV. My tablet has an HDMI port, and by syncing up a bluetooth controller, then I can pretty much run games the same way I would on this device. And my tablet's a cheapo piece of sh*t.

As far as Android powered devices go, I'm actually more interested in the New Nvidia Shield (yes, NEW is actually part of the name... meaning that they pulled a Nintendo 3DS). That once seems to have a more console-like experience and can run 4K. Not sure if it will do emulators... and even if it does, I could kind of care less since it probably wouldn't be that much better than emulation on my piece of sh*t tablet.

I bought an Ouya shortly after they first came out in stores. I love the design of it. It's very small and neat looking. However, I found the system to be rather horrible to actually use.

The games that were in the store were all app store games with a few super cheap self published titles as well. I actually bought it to be a complete emulation machine, but I found the lag from the controller rendered the entire thing unusuable.

I tried and tried to make it work, but that half a second delay or so was just too much to deal with. I ended up selling it on Amazon for dirt cheap.

With that being said, there are a lot of people really happy with the machine and its emulation capabilites on the Ouya forums and such. It just didn't work for me. I would spend the money and buy a cheap used laptop for emulating. I think it would work better.

With Android certain brands are better than others. But I know it's easier to add anything to Android vs IOS! I thought about the Nvidia shield too to play my PC games in the other room and supposedly on the go but it was too pricey. I know I've tried the PS1 emu on other Android devices the emulation isn't as good. I have a lot of the same emulators on my ipad but this was something I could hook to a friends tv and share old school gaming goodness. Yes it has it's issues-the wifi capability is non existent! But I believe its a good open ended system.
