WAV sounds as good as FLAC, and I really doubt it makes a difference if you're using $10 earbuds.

True. I have some sweet Bose headphones that really capture every nuance. I can't enjoy my Brahms unless the 5th clarinet is clearly distinguishable.

Things might have changed by now, but I've heard way too much about Bose being a scam to put stock in any claims of their quality.

I can't speak for their other products but I own the noise cancelling model QC15, and those are excellent. On a plane they work wonders in reducing the engine roar and the sound is great. My only caveat is the construction is kind of cheap. Everything is plastic. Similarly priced Beats headphones are made of solid metal.
