I was reading this piece today.

Often I have wondered how on earth some of these films were ever considered as good source material for a children's product or program.

I would add the following to this list myself:

Heck, Tales from the Crypt isn't a kids show and they made an animated series anyway.

Yes, this movie which originally had an X rating got made into a crap cartoon for kids.

Are You Afraid of the Dark is a good start.

The intro is enough to make you think "How did this become a children's show?"

Exactly. Also Roko's Modern Life.

I think it's all appropriate. People can really be wimps when it comes to kids.

Even Ghostbusters could have been considered a bit too much for children. The movie jumps almost instantly into foul language and sexual innuendo. Yet we had a cartoon and toy line as well as a lot of other merchandise. Today, Ghostbusters would be rated PG-13 and unlikely to be as successful with kids under 13.

I think the point of the article linked in the OP was just to point out how some properties have found success outside their target audience. Not a bad thing at all. Just a curiosity.

Even though Problem Child is rated PG, it still has some profanity and it showcases Junior being very rude and getting in trouble. Problem Child is rated PG-13 and of course, it's meant for teens and older people. The point I'm trying to make is, despite all the swearing and rudeness, an animated series for kids was still made.

True. But at the same time with how things are now and how they were we're amazed at some of the stuff they got away with.

James Bond movies have violence, sex and drinking in them.

And yet, we still get James Bond Jr.
