Yeah, I have thought about getting people here vs waiting for the site to be fully "ready". Like crow said, take your time. I didn't want to put articles before then, but also you need content to have up.

Can you make the forum VRML so I can navigate like Johnny Mnemonic/Minority Report/fsn (Jurassic Park Unix)? With datagloves and stereo display please.
Put an animation of the Rad Racer car (or A-Team van) driving me to the next thread when I click on it. And when I post a reply, make Photog Smurg carry it into the thread, lol

Not only will all those features be added, but additionally you will have to compete in a "Tron" style race in order to simply "Log In". Hope you don't fear speed.

Well I don't think it's a very good movie, but I wouldn't say I'm afraid of Speed, per se

OP posts with sig look fine in Internet Explorer. But I put a sig on myself and posted in a thread (as the sixth reply or something) and, in IE, my sig was in the middle of the first reply. The next dev may need to do some thorough testing.

Yeah, little things like that and the endless list of videos/articles on a user profile (instead of sticking in a scroll bar like there should have been - just look at my profile and Caps.)

And the fact that the search function for Videos and Articles only searches for those that have been submitted by the user whose video or article is currently displayed in the main area. Seriously?

I am actively shopping 2 update packages now. Lot's of good stuff coming.

There is a company in Austrailia that I am having quote me this week. They are familiar with Yii, and even offered to help me earlier with a site bug, at no charge.

That's appealing.

Just thought I'd keep you up on it. Have fun guys!

I am hoping to have the quote from a company called Exia, out of Australia, sometime this coming week. They will quote me for both update packages.

Here are the details for the second update package:

Update Package 2

The following is a list of upgrades to the site that users would like to see implemented. I have provided mock images (in some cases) of the features here to help you understand exactly what they are.

1. Animated .Gifs for User Avatars: This update would add the ability for the user to assign an animated .gif file as their user avatar. Currently, animated .gifs appear only as a single, static image selected from the series of images within the animation.

2. Fix Search Function (images provided; 1 Search Function 1.png, 1 Search Function 2.png, 1 Search Function 3.png): This fix would expand the search results that are presented to the user when utilizing the search bar on the Videos, Articles, and Profile pages. Currently, users are only presented with search results that pertain to the user that has submitted the currently featured Article or Video. This would expand search results to ALL user submitted content, regardless of what video or article is presently featured on the Videos or Articles pages.

3. User Profile Submissions Scroll Bar (image provided; 1 Profile Scroll Bar.png): This update would create a scroll bar within the user submissions list on the user’s Profile page. This scroll bar would scroll the user’s submitted Videos AND Articles listed, together. Currently, the list of Videos and Articles continues endlessly down the profile page, obstructing other page features and creating an unpleasant and unprofessional looking page.

4. Forum “Quote” Button (image provided; 1 Quote Button.png): This amounts to creating a button within the text area of every user post, allowing another user to directly quote them when replying in the thread. Currently, it is possible to quote another user by using the following example code:
quoted text goes here
However, this would eliminate the need for doing so, creating the quote code within the reply box automatically.

5. Fix FireFox Signature Issue(image provided; 1 FireFox Sig Problem.png): This update would fix the issue with Mozilla FireFox displaying a user’s forum signature. Currently, FireFox misplaces a user’s signature somewhere toward the upper part of the thread page, totally out of position and only once per thread, not in every post of the user. This problem also occurs when the thread is viewed on a Smart Phone, like the iPhone.

6. Forum Post History (image provided; 1 Forum Post History.png): This update would turn the “Forum Posts” text within the user Profile page into a link that, when clicked on by the user, causes a list of every forum post made by the user to appear in order of posting – from first (the top) to last (the bottom). A scroll bar is present that can be used to scroll down through posts that do not fit within the defined area. Clicking on any post in the list will direct the user to the page containing the thread that the post was made in.

7. Article Theme Selection (images provided; 1 Theme Selection 1.png, 1 Theme Selection 2.png, article_bg_CPU_EXAMPLE.png, article_bg_dotmatrixpaper_EXAMPLE.png): This update would produce an option for a user to select between three themes for their submitted and approved article. The three themes would be selectable via a new section toward the bottom of the Article Submission Editor that has check boxes for selection. Each theme has it’s own background image and font style/color. Within the Admin Panel, a new option would be present when viewing a submitted article. This would show the Admin which theme was chosen by the user, and allow the Admin to change it if necessary via a dropdown box. (The additional background images are already designed and ready to go for the developer).

Promotion of the site is quickly coming. I have begun a modest Adwords campaign. Additionally, I have reached out to other forum admins with users of similar interest. I have provided funding for one of these sites to rebrand or relaunch their own 2.0 in exchange for some great advertising amongst the user base there. I'm hoping to hear back from another regarding direct advertising there as well. Trying my best to get the word out.

Cool; interesting. I want to thank you for being so thorough with this site.

Quoting a user should also include their name thusly

So when threads (hopefully) get many replies, the reference is easily tracked by the reader.

You showed us a post history feature in the "images submitted to developer" thread. Does each reply have its own ID?

Is there a set number of posts per page?

In the list of Forum Comments that would hopefully be accessed from the Forum page, each reply has it's own ID number. You can sort replies by that ID number, or by the posted by, posted on, and thread name listings.

Excellent. So each post could have its own hashtag link, similar to sections in a wikipedia article (example). In post history or search results, you could click on a post to be taken to that spot within the thread. Is that already on the table?

I hadn't thought of that. I know I wanted the user to be able to click on individual posts to be taken to the thread the post was made in. I hadn't considered directing the page to the exact post (mainly because so few threads have a great deal of posts thus far). However, that could be useful if in the future there are some threads with huge amounts of posts in them. I'll see what I can find out.
