That's why I don't like new games. If I want somebody else to tell me a story I will watch a movie.

True. But not many movies can put you in control of the action. Well, not counting Night Trap or Sewer Shark.

Or Corpse Killer.

I prefer games with minimal stories, dialog, and especially cutscenes. I want control of both the action and the story. Ceding one because crappy game devs would rather be making movies gives up what makes video games a great medium. Story in games should be implicit in the content, not the other way around.

Mega Man (and most of the classic video games of the 2nd and 3rd generation) is great because it gives you a basic framework to play around in and do things your own way; you are the director of the final experience. I have been susceptible to the draw of finding out what happens next, but I will always enjoy the older games more than the current style. There is a reason Mario 3 is consistently rated in the top five games ever, and Mario Galaxy, Sunshine, et al rarely are.

Don't get me wrong. I love the sport of the way games used to be. Always working to achieve that high score or beat that final boss character. It's just that I also enjoy being a part of a big, unfolding story that hinges on my choices. But, they have to REALLY capture me nowadays in order to make me play through.

The Mass Effect series is the only series that has managed to do that in recent years. I've tried others, but they just can't reach the depth and character of ME.

I don't mind a game that involves one big story. Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 really captured my imagination. They always kept me guessing what was going to happen next.

I've only ever played 1 and 7, and I like this game a lot more. It's really hard, yes, but it's fun, and I actually beat it! I have the Anniversary Collection, so my copy can save.

I was fortunate enough to beat this game. And I'm glad The Anniversary Collection helps you save your progress on MM1.

Ugh, 7 doesn't even count. That game should not exist. You should give 2 a try. It's way easier than 1, but it's the most fun in the series imo.
