As for the apartments, if you can hear someone having a conversation on the other side of a wall it must be a pretty thin wall with no insulation. The apartment I was living in for a few months was great, you couldn't hear anything. My gf though heard the neighbors making love on more than a few occasions while I was at work.
As for annoying things, I conditioned my inner being to a perfectly balanced state of Zen. Nothing can penetrate my veil of serenity or infringe upon my meditative calm...except for people who bring a cart load of groceries through self check out, that $#1@ irks me!
