while plastic toys do have that safety hazard of choking, i was never really fond of the plush toys since those had their own downside of needing to be washed over time, i could see some parents carelessly not wanting to do so as those toys begin forming dirt and mold, then throwing them away like a month or two later to be forgotten

You have to wonder how much of an influence the toys really are any more. The last ones I really remember caring anything about were the little Masters of the Universe figurines that came out around the time of the 200X reboot series.

But do kids care anymore? I know my own kids couldn't care less about the toys.

I doubt that there are ethical reasons for this, it's most likely because paper and sticker-based activities are cheaper. Wendy's has had some interesting STEM-based toys for kids. 

i think at this point kids are expecting like a free mobile game or something lol. godforbid about 90% of american kids are playing fortnite these days, maybe that's something they'll want. a happy meal with a free DLC code or something

Kids don't appreciate them the way  we used to.

I have. It was pretty decent. I didn't get a "berry" flavor from it. Seemed more like birthday cake flavor to me.
