This is old news but since last year, DC comics has been publishing several series based on the old classics we all love: Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, and others have been brought back, and the general reception seems to be pretty positive. I guess that's what happens when you don't rush reboots or remakes and take some time to develop them.

I've only read the flintstones one so far, but it's great. Far greater than a flintstones comic has any right to be. It's more of a satire/social commentary than just modern stone age hijinks, and even carries a T (for teen) rating!  In any case, this ain't your parent's Flintstones.
I've included just a few examples to show you what I mean:

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

But the best title of all, and the one I'm most looking forward to reading is--

Future Quest- a crossover epic that as you can see, unites many of Hanna Barbera's classic heroes. This is also probably the first time in awhile that these characters are being written in a genuine and sincere way instead of getting the postmodern Adult Swim treatment (though I have nothing against those).

For those not in the know, the mainstream comics market is oversaturated with too many superhero books, and too many superhero books have been obsessed with pleasing the "social justice warrior" crowd by introducing all sorts of changes, all of which alienated their traditional fanbase. It's nice to know that while publishers are competing with each other to lose as many readers as possible, someone saw the need for new, and dare I say it- "fun" comics.

So yeah. Give these a try some time.

I've never seen Fred Flintstone this dramatic before.

Seems kind of a weird idea, but I'll give it a shot.

Mmmmm... I found mainstream comics oversaturated with too many superheroes 23 years ago. And I sought out more "fun" titles then and still do, and I dig the "social justice" direction in some comics now. And... some of that "social commentary" displayed above? Not out of line with it. But I also really like Deadpool, which is allegedly offensive for soandsos. I think your brush is a little broad there.

Pretty soon, we'll start seeing a Hanna-Barbara cinematic universe. Calling it now.

I don't see that happening. We've already seen Hanna-Barbara film adaptions and none have gone over well.

@Rick:

I think the 1994 Flintstones movie is the only live-action Hanna-Barbara movie that had success. For a lot of people including me, it's an enjoyable film.
