You've probably seen these before. The cute, bigheaded vinyl "toys" that are basically paperweights. A few years ago Funko, the company, seemed content with making figures that were safe, if typical, choices-superheroes, video games, etc. Now? They've been grabbing up licenses left and right, producing figures from just about every franchise under the sun. No, seriously, think of a movie or TV show. There's a strong likelihood that Funko's made it into a Pop (or a "Dorbz" from their sister line), or is going to at some point in the future. Naturally, this means the Funko treatment for some retro favorites....

...but also for some surprising picks from today's pop culture.

Sometimes I think Funko is trying to flood the market with the sheer amount of Pops they churn out. Anybody here have one, or even a collection? What character or series would you like to see as a Pop? At this rate, if you wait long enough, you just might get it!

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

I got a lot of the pops, They are this year's beanie babies in my opinion, but you can make money off of these.

I have a few, but I'm not much of a fan. Like you said, they're basically cartoonized character paperweights.

They look a little too chibi for my tastes. Some of them look really weird like the Sailor Moon and Friends ones.

My personal favorite is my Rick with the portal gun.

haha, I had this same thought. Definitely a lot of parallels.

These are the only two pops I own. The Gigantor is from a "collector" line that's ridiculously overpriced. I only bought him because he was on clearance. If (when) the public loses interest in these guys, I'll bank on it being because of the lack of interesting and creative designs. 90% of the pops are basically the same. And as pikachulover pointed out, likeness is an issue...

See what I mean? Ignoring the stupidity of making a John Oliver pop in the first place, you could just as easily market him as Rick Moranis. Or take his glasses off, put him on a different body, and now he's Hal from Malcom in the Middle! As for M.A.S.K., you'd have to be crazy to even consider selling a figure without a helmet, but Funko probably would. There's nothing to distinguish them from "Generic Blonde White Guy #3427" or "Generic Old General".

Sorry for the rant..I think I have a love/hate relationship with these things.

Don't be. I can absolutely see what you're saying here. There are many that are unique by design, but also many that are indeterminate with regard to identity without a box. I wonder what Batty feels about this?

I don't have any at the moment, but there are a few I've seen of some of my favorite characters that I wouldn't mind owning. I totally agree that some of these things are too easily interchangeable, though. I've seen a couple that I thought were one character only to find out that they were different characters when I read the labels on the boxes.

Here's my doodle of a design of a funko pop style Greg Lee from Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
