One of the first actions Mike Matei did that didn't bode well with me was when he leaked out an email Chris Bores wrote to James Rolfe on the ScrewAttack forums, telling him about how he created the Irate Gamer character, and that he used some of the lines that AVGN used in some of his videos. While this was around the time that the Irate Gamer started getting big exposure on Youtube, and a lot of people, including myself, disliked his videos, I found that to be a very classless move. Weather Chris was being genuine about the email or not, this is the equivalent of spitting in the face of one of your big fans. Chris even brought it up in a video he made a few years ago where he was disclosing a lot of the drama that went on between him and AVGN, and this is one I side with him on.
Now, usually, I'm the type of person who gives a person a benefit of a doubt when it comes to something they've done in the past, as people do make mistakes. But looking at what Mike would later do tells me that he hasn't changed much as a person.
And as for the comics he made in 2004 and 2005... that really seems to solidify who he really is as a person. He kind of reminds me of John Krisfalusi in a way. A talented artist, but a really mentally f****d up person. Some of his humor is even used in his later Cinemassacre videos. A good example of that is this one moment in his Elmo in Grouchland review, where he not only makes a really tasteless sex joke about Gordon and Maria, but he actually used an illustrated drawing of Cookie Monster peeking in their window as part of it.
