This is so true. I never understood why he got his own videos or even had cameos in Jame's videos. He brings nothing to the table and his ego is out of control.

I really dug Channel Awesome for about a year sometime around 2008-2009. I like the Nostalgic Critic, the Nostalgic Chick and Transmission Awesome. But man did that whole channel/site get old fast and looking back it was almost all entirely stupid to begin with.

I think he's just Rolfe's partner. He's used to help film the videos and their projects, he's also used as an extra actor if they ever need it for an AVGN video. I really don't find him that bad, I don't see anything special about him but he seem's like a nice and normal guy.

the only thing from mike matei that stood out for me was his art videos. the guy does freehand phenomenally and yet he'd rather take advantage of youtube's money revenue program for that extra buck in posting constant video content with almost none of his art at all. it's a shame, really.

so after doing some curious searching around, i found out that mike matei actually had his own series of comics back around 2004-2005. i'm only posting this one title card because well, for visual safety i don't want to show what an average comic strip from this looks like. seriously. if you want to go through the trouble of checking them out, search mike matei on encyclopedia dramatica and scroll down to where you can view the comics. they're not just racist, but he goes out of his way to make drawn depictions of male and female genitalia, and the comics ending with a joke that doesn't go through. they're that atrocious. i can't believe i used to look up to this guy's art.

I am a pretty big fan of James Rolfe and as he has expressed in interviews about the decrease in frequency and arguably quality of some videos is directly related to him becoming a father and having more responsibilities at home.

AVGN is now available on Amazon Prime and his new Earthbound video is pretty sweet!

One of the first actions Mike Matei did that didn't bode well with me was when he leaked out an email Chris Bores wrote to James Rolfe on the ScrewAttack forums, telling him about how he created the Irate Gamer character, and that he used some of the lines that AVGN used in some of his videos. While this was around the time that the Irate Gamer started getting big exposure on Youtube, and a lot of people, including myself, disliked his videos, I found that to be a very classless move. Weather Chris was being genuine about the email or not, this is the equivalent of spitting in the face of one of your big fans. Chris even brought it up in a video he made a few years ago where he was disclosing a lot of the drama that went on between him and AVGN, and this is one I side with him on.

Now, usually, I'm the type of person who gives a person a benefit of a doubt when it comes to something they've done in the past, as people do make mistakes. But looking at what Mike would later do tells me that he hasn't changed much as a person.

And as for the comics he made in 2004 and 2005... that really seems to solidify who he really is as a person. He kind of reminds me of John Krisfalusi in a way. A talented artist, but a really mentally f****d up person. Some of his humor is even used in his later Cinemassacre videos. A good example of that is this one moment in his Elmo in Grouchland review, where he not only makes a really tasteless sex joke about Gordon and Maria, but he actually used an illustrated drawing of Cookie Monster peeking in their window as part of it.
