Saw this trailer for the Star Wars movie coming out this December. Looks like it should be pretty interesting to me. Quote Disable Sigs You love this signature.

So it's my understanding this is a one time stand alone film taking place right before A New Hope? It would be weird to have 2 separate sagas going on.

I really digged this trailer. I love how it still has Star Wars elements but feels totally different from the other films. I hope these stand alone films truly stand alone and are unique.

I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but I loved the trailer. Definitely had the Star Wars feel whilst simultaneously staying true to itself. I'm excited to see where this goes.

Did you guys see who I saw? That's Forest Whitaker at the end! |

This means they need to bring back Vader, right?

So how do you guys feel about this?
If you stay with the battle between the Empire and the Rebels then Star Wars becomes a canvas where an endless number of characters play out their part in this saga. The downside of course is what happens when expanding the stories is handled poorly, and we've already experienced that. |

A lot happens between episodes III and IV which the prequel trilogy failed to establish, they couldn't even give Vader/Anakin a compelling story to go to the dark side. There's 30+ years of sweet galactic civil war between Luke's birth and maturity to dig into.

I agree here with echidna. There is plenty that can be added to the "missing years" between III and IV. It would be cool to see Vader again too, in his prime.

As far as I'm concerned, more Star Wars films being released is a good thing. Even if some of these standalone movies end up being bad, there may be some gems that we get out of this, too.
