The woman who was singing that rendition of "I Will Always Love You" in one of the episodes sounded very sweet imo.

The more the show goes along, the more I find that I REALLY don't like the main kid.

The one who's into the grunge lifestyle kind of annoys me.

thecrow174 wrote :That whole caricature annoyed the hell out of me. It was so cringe-inducing and it was obvious knew nothing about that genre. That was painfully obvious when they pretended as if Live was a huge grunge band. Scenes like that are what makes the show lesser than something like The Goldbergs (The show Fresh Off the Boat is basically trying to be). |

So I'm caught up now on the show, and I agree with Derk... the main kid is really unlikeable. Unlike Adam Goldberg, this kid is like that annoying guy in school who always thought he was way cooler than he actually was. He's really uncomfortable in his own skin, but does everything he can to pretend he isn't. You find yourself rooting AGAINST the "star" of the show... and that is a really bad thing. I think it's safe to say he is kind of like a Barry Goldberg type of character, but not at all funny. Not something you want to base a show around.
That being said, it still has some redeeming qualities. You love this signature.

Is Fresh off the Boat based on real people and events like The Goldbergs?

Vaporman87 wrote :You pretty much nailed it. You can't help but like Adam Goldberg because he comes across as a good kid who always has good intentions. Eddie from FotB, like you said, comes across as the douche-bag 'too cool for school' kid. Outside of punching the other kid for calling him a racist name, I can't think of one thing he's done thus far that's made him likable. I'm not sure if they intended that character to be that way, but in my opinion, they could take him completely out of the show and it would improve it immensely. Every other member of the family is much more likable. |

I think this will last about two seasons.
