Stir of Echoes 8/10

So last night I watched the movie "Boyhood".

I know there is a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding this movie, and critics just love it.

I did not.

So this movie's novelty is that it was filmed over the course of 12 years, using the same actors as they aged. Yes, it was an achievement to keep a narrative solid with such a long span of time taking place between filmings. Beyond that though, it's really quite boring and uninspired.

Basically you have this kid who is very introspective and way too concerned with things that, in the end, just don't matter. He spends so much time being disconnected from society and trying to find meaning in life, while he just nonchalantly dabbles in drugs, booze, women, and laziness. He has poor role models, which are meant to be the source of his behavior (or at least that was my take on it), but ultimately you feel like you just watched someone's pretty boring, depressing formative years pass by. I got nothing from it.

Don't waste your time with this one.

Some of the most boring movies ever win Oscars. I still regret seeing The English Patient.
