I never dreaded going to work when I was there. When I ended up working at Walmart however, I dreaded every day. I think that says a lot. | VillechaizeLove | Mar 20, 2018 | ![]() |

This was back in 2008 or so, and even then the manager was explaining how TRU was trying to rebrand somethings, like making the "R-Zone" a Bestbuy like shopping ceneter for electronics. IMO, the reason they closed was because when you go to TRU it's strictly for buying toys. Where as you go to Wal-Mart you can get your groceries and toys all in one trip. I'm sure a lot of parents liked taking their kids to TRU but it was also probably an ordeal as well.

The term, "Can we go to the Toy Store" is now dead, that's so strange to me.
-end quote
My mother told me about this. When this story first broke, my mother mentioned just how much she hated going into our TRU store when I was a kid. She considered it such an ordeal just for a toy.Online shopping along with super stores like Wal-Mart are just far too more convenient for shopping then going to an individual store for each thing you want. | Rick Ace Rhodes | Mar 20, 2018 | ![]() |

| 39253 | Farewell Toys R Us | I stopped by my local TRU (it's on my way to work). Maybe it's because I was too late, or maybe it's because I'm finally too old for toys, but I walked around the entire store and didn't see even one thing worth getting. The place was a mess too, with cluttered aisles and tons of families trying to scavenge for scraps. What's weird is that the registers had signs saying that nothing was on clearance so it's not like they were even getting special deals or anything like that.

All in all it was kinda depressing. Thank God for online shopping.

| jkatz | Mar 19, 2018 | ![]() |
| 39252 | Farewell Toys R Us | Toys R' Us is a nostalgia gold mine. It was my favorite store to go to as a kid and I have so many great memories of buying TMNT figures, Legos, Pokemon cards, and even video games in my teen years. Outside of a theme park, I've never seen a greater collection of Lego sets. Also, the Toys R' Us Christmas Catalog would be fun reading.

I would be interested to find out what toys were some of its best sellers in its final years.
| echidna64 | Mar 19, 2018 | ![]() |
