1269 | Article | Hoju Koolander | I'm still baffled as to why you still used the urine-soaked pieces in the final product, but that was pretty epic. People talk about the infinite uses for duct tape, but now we have to consider construction paper as a slightly more colorful and expensive alternative to sawdust or sponges. | Sep 17, 2014
1281 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Interesting theme. Among my favorite green toys growing up were my Mego Hulk doll (yes, he was a doll), Swamp Thing with the retractable arm and Yoda from the original Kenner Star Wars line. I never even noticed that the Turtles had different shades of green, what a revelation. | Toys Go Green! | Sep 18, 2014
1283 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Ha, I totally remember that Crystal Gravy parody commercial on SNL Vaporman. So wrong, but so hilarious. One of the few variation I tried back in the day was the Caffein Free version of Crystal Pepsi, because I wasn't allowed to have actual cola. It was pretty unique, but I wouldn't say good. | These Beverages Need to Join the ReSurgence | Sep 19, 2014
1293 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Yeah, I totally forgot about ol' Icabod. That's a great one! | What to Watch on Halloween | Sep 20, 2014
1311 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman87-You're Dad met Ric Flair? All I can say is "Whooo!" Hey contributing to MOTU is way beyond my TV appearance, people actually have your work in their collections. @NLogan-That summer crush story is great. I didn't have the technical set-up to transfer VHS and do screen caps when I wrote the Great Pretenders article all those years back, so now that I do it seemed the perfect time to create a better version of that article with visual documentation. @vkimo-I look forward to your Toni Braxton cover album dropping soon. | KIDS, Incorporated: Dreams Come True | Sep 23, 2014
1317 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Yeah, I think I'm going to order both those books from the points store as well. Fascinating story I'm sure. There's actually a documentary called Toy Masters this guy has been trying to put out for years featuring interviews with the major players in the MOTU story. The trailer (which apparently got taken down) has one of the creators referring to the other's claims as "Pure Barbarian Fiction". 1323 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @vkimo: Yeah, that security cage for the games is a vivid memory for me as well. It was just so mysterious. It was actual dreams I've had of returning to Toys R Us in the 80's that inspired this article. And yes, the good Doctor has a few more adventures up his sleeve. @Vaporman87 Those costumes would be an amazing, if not stinky find. I used to manage a KB Toy Store and the highlight of my life was when Spider-Man came for an in-store (Barbie was OK too). It was in 2001, so I'm not sure if it qualifies for the site, but I took a lot of pictures with him. I even convinced him to pose in the storage room with the mask off as if he was Peter Parker doing a quick change. Yeah, I'm a little weird. | Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987 | Sep 24, 2014
1331 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Knott's Scary Farm is still on my to-do list. I grew up in Orange County and even worked as a character as Disneyland, but never made it over to a Halloween Haunt. I thought your description of the smell was very helpful in imagining myself getting terrorized by ghouls for hire. So what was your cousin dressed up as? @vkimo Those haunted attractions sound pretty kinky, uh yeah... | A Haunting Experience | Sep 25, 2014
1332 | Article | Hoju Koolander | "...character AT Disneyland" Although a physical representation of the entire park would be a pretty awesome costume. | A Haunting Experience | Sep 25, 2014
1333 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Morning Funnies cereal was also for me one of the sugar cereals I was able to convince my parents to put in the shopping cart just once. To me the flavor was like amped-up Fruit Loops. I 100% agree on the old "McStyrofoam" containers. The designs were so iconic that they even made those transformer-like Happy Meal toys based on that classic look. | Yesterdays 1: Foods Long Gone | Sep 25, 2014 |
