My Retro Crushes

I thought it would be fun to write about my retro crushes - the women from past television series and movies that caught my attention as I was growing up. The first such woman that I can remember is Sgt. Dee Dee McCall, played by the gorgeous Stephanie Kramer, from the show Hunter. Hunter was a police drama that ran from 1984 to 1991. As I was quite young when I was watching the show with my mother, I can't remember a whole lot about it other than the fact that I really liked Dee Dee McCall and that I lost interest in watching the show after she cut her hair. Given my age at the time, I think it's quite likely that I didn't follow along with the plot all that much and just watched it to see a woman who I was attracted to.

Later, I remember becoming a fan of Gilligan's Island, and like all boys interested in that show, I quickly pondered the question, "Ginger or Mary Ann?" For me, the answer was the glamorous movie star, Ginger Grant.

Speaking of women from television of the 1960s, Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeannie was another favorite of mine. I thought that she was very beautiful in both the role of Jeannie and as Jeannie's mischievous sister.

Like a lot of kids from the '90s, I was also a fan of the Power Rangers, and Kimberly, the original Pink Ranger, was a favorite of mine. In fact, soon after she left the series, I stopped watching the show for a couple of seasons. That's how much I liked her character.

I did eventually start watching the series again a couple of seasons down the line, though, which leads me to another crush of mine, Cerina Vincent, who played the Yellow Ranger on Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy. I was actually fortunate enough to meet this retro crush of mine at a convention that took place over this past summer, and I'm happy to report that she was very kind and very friendly.

Another series that I watched faithfully, and in fact, continue to watch over again every so often, is Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Lead actress Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane, and Tracy Scoggins, who played Cat Grant, both caught my eye. Tracy Scoggins is another crush who I'm fortunate enough to have met at a convention, and like Cerina Vincent, she was a very nice woman who seemed to really enjoy chatting with her fans.

The last crush I'm going to discuss is Annette Funicello, the former star of a series of successful beach films from the 1960s. She was from a generation that was before my time, but I still enjoyed watching her films a great deal.

So, tell me, who were your retro crushes?

@Supes: I tried to recall any woman that I found attractive and enjoyed seeing in films and TV. They are exclusively 80's women, but after the 80's my crushes moved to actual girls in my school or local area.

@Vaporman87 You've got quite a nice list there.

@mickyarber It's nice to see some more love for Tracy Scoggins. I sometimes feel like she's underrated.

@OldSchool80s Elisabeth Shue is definitely a beautiful woman.

My list is long and includes many of those that Vapor listed, but tops on my list will always be Elisabeth Shue.

Tracy Scoggins, mmmmm. I too had a cush on that lady.

Beautiful ladies, all of them. I agree here with Barbara Eden and Ginger. Those two also caught my young eyes. For me, I was a big fan of Olivia d'Abo, Bobbie Brown, Tawny Kitaen, Samantha Fox, Erin Gray, Tanya Roberts, Meredith Salenger, Mia Sara, Kathy Ireland, Rebecca Demornay, Helen Slater, Loni Anderson, Daryl Hannah, Stephanie Seymour, Elle Macpherson, Vanessa Williams, Kelly LeBrock, Christie Brinkley, Elisabeth Shue, Phoebe Cates, etc., etc.
