My 5 Favorite Halloween Songs
When celebrating Halloween, there are five things you need: costumes to wear, treats, movies and specials to watch, decorations, and music. You can't have a good Halloween party with out some music the tap your toes to. And there have been plenty of spooky tunes for us to listen to. From classic ones to modern ones, from well known ones to obscure ones, we all have our favorite songs that we love to listen to get us in a spooky mood. And today, I have five songs in particular that I love listening to. Now these are ones that I personally like, I know you guys have your favorites. So let me know in the comment section below what your favorite Halloween songs are. But for now, without further ado, and in no particular order, here are my five favorite Halloween songs.
Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley (1958)
Originally sung by Sheb Wooley in 1958, Purple People Eater is a song that may have came out before any of us were born, but have probably listened to at one point or another. The song itself is about, what I assume to be a space monster who desires to be a rock star. While the song wasn't originally marketed as a Halloween song at the time, being released in May of 1958, the song has been played on many a person's Halloween playlist and has been covered by many other people since. I have certainly listened to it a few times.
This is Halloween from The nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Originally coming out in 1993, This is Halloween is the main song for the Tim Burton movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sung by the citizens of Halloween Town, this is the first song that we hear in the movie. For those who haven't seen the movie (which I recommend you check out), it follows Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloweentown, who's grown tired of Halloween, and out of desperation, finds Christmas Town, and decides to take Christmas for himself. Even though the movie is 30 years old at this point, I'm not going to say anything else on the movie's plot in case someone who hasn't seen it wants to see it. While there are other songs from the movie that a lot of people like, this song is my personal favorite. And while that have been covers of this song, I like the original better.
Thriller by Michael Jackson (1982)
Originally coming out in 1982 and sung by the late Michael Jackson, Thriller is considered one of Jackson's most iconic songs. For those who haven't seen the music video for, basically it follows Jackson and his girlfriend after they get out of a movie. While Jackson is singing the song, zombies show up. That's all I'm going to say about it. You have to check it out for yourself. While Michael Jackson's repetition has got in a bit muddy due to several incidents doing his career, which I'm not going to talk about on here for sensitivity reasons, a lot of people still love his music, and Thriller in particular, has become a popular mainstay on many people's Halloween playlist, mine included.
Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. (1984)
Originally sung by Ray Parker Jr. in 1984, Ghostbusters is the theme song for the movie of the same name. I don't think I need to explain what this movie is about, since at least 90% of the people on this site I have seen this movie, but to give you the gist of it, four guys form a ghost hunting business and eventually have to save the world from an evil entity. While both the song and the movie weren't originally associated with Halloween, they have since become Mainstays on a lot of people's Halloween playlist and watch list, respectively, mine included. And while that have been tons of covers of the song since, none of them hold a candle to the original.
Monster Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett & The Crypt Kickers (1962)
Finishing off this list, we have a song that no Halloween playlist should be without! Released in 1962 and sung by Bobby "Boris" Pickett & The Crypt Kickers, Monster Mash is arguably one of the most iconic Halloween songs of all time. The most iconic part of this song is Pickett's incredible impression of famous monster movie actor, The late, Great Boris Karloff, will you might know as the actor who portrayed the monster in the classic monster movie, Frankenstein. While Pickett has sung tons of other songs, Monster Mash is easily his most iconic song. And while there have been plenty of covers, they all pale in comparison to the original, which has become a staple of Halloween parties everywhere.
And there you have it, folks! Five of my favorite Halloween songs. Again, these are just my favorites, so let me know in the comment section below which ones are your favorites. Thank you so much for reading my article. I hope you guys have a Happy Halloween! *Evil laugh*

Regardless of how many times I've heard it through the years, the Ghostbusters theme will never get old to me. Well, unless I put on a marathon of the Real Ghostbusters DVDs, in which they play the theme on the DVD menus and then having to hear it more when an episode starts lol

Well, again, these are my personal favorites.
Also, you need to figure out a way for us to actually reply to people.

Another great list! These five songs make up what could probably be best described as the Holy Quintrinity of Halloween soundtrack music. LOL. Though many would probably want to drop one or two in favor of other faves... Somebody's Watching Me, Grim Grinning Ghosts, Werewolves of London, etc.
