80s Tees T Shirt Review

By: vkimo

Hey guys,

I wanted to start a little segment where I comb the World Wide Web using Netscape Navigator in search of cool retro suited swag. I know, like a lot of you, if coach would have put us in 4th quarter back in '82 - we'd have won state and be soaking it up with our soulmates right about now. However, until reliable time crystals are made available, we'll have to live in the past another way - enter 80sTees.com

I reached out to the good folk at 80s Tees and they were more than happy to send us a few samples. Let's see what we got!

Can you name both movies? I'm a hugh Arnold fan, so I was very excited about the Predator shirt featuring everyone's favorite sexual tyrannasusrus sporting ol' painless.

The other shirt honestly had me scratching my head until I took a refresher and found out it was from Eddie Murphy's 80s hit, Coming to America. McDowell's was a sort of McDonald's clone, the great thing is there's a restaurant cult out there, and on Halloween certain food establishments and businesses actually set up their store front in the likeness of the film.

I was kind of surprised to see the shirts were printed on different brands of Tees. I much preferred the cotton poly blend on the McDowells shirt as it was softer and had more stretch than the Fruit of the Loom's all cotton fabric. I'd love to see 80s Tees print all their shirts on the same Tees just for continuity though. I like the fabric, fit and feel that Target uses for their graphic tees, and hope we can see something similar on 80s Tees, just because their print library is so superior to anything else out there.

I really dig the obscure references both these shirts exhibit. Retro throwback tees are so common now, having one with an NES Controller print that says "Classicly Trained" is almost cliche. These shirts boast references that few people would pick up on, but when they do, it's awesome! I had a guy at the gym compliment my Predator shirt, with a "I love that movie" and even at RetroCon I got some loving from fellow Predator fans.

All in all, I really enjoy what 80s Tees has to offer. I do feel the t-shirt quality could use a boost especially for the premium price tag. The cost can be hard to swallow, but the fact that ALL of 80s Tees are officially licensed makes paying much more acceptable as the creative properties behind our favorite movies/shows/etc are getting their fair share.

Love both of these shirts! My Coming to America shirt is for Sexual Chocolate featuring Mr. Randy Watson.

We are currently in talks, I plan on doing an Underoos shoot, based off of Mark Wahlberg's famous Calvin Klein ads in the early 90s.
