Movie Mogwai: Tiny Creature Features Movies Part 1

By: MatuX2
Hey fellow RetroDazers!!(Or whatever..) MatuX2 here and today I am back with a new article.

This time it is not gonna be Top Tens, or Favorite Toys. Today I am gonna make a movie based article. Now each movie based article is gonna have "Movie Mogwai" in the title (Its called "Movie Mogwai" because Gremlins is my favorite movie). Look, I have even made a picture for it (I am so bad at Paint).

Anyways, lets begin with the article already!

Movie Mogwai: Battle Of The Tiny

 Creature Features

Now before we start, I want to say something else. What I want to say is that I mean Tiny Creature Features, because I am not gonna talk about Godzilla, Aliens, Predators,or Clowns... but I am gonna talk about those little tiny creatures.(Gremlins,Critters,Ghoulies and more)

Gremlins(1984)

Year:1984

Director:Joe Dante

Writer:Chris Colombus

Producer:Steven Spielberg

Stars:Zach Galligan,Phoebe Cates,Hoyt Axton

Genre:Comedy,Horror

The Plot

On a snowy Christmas day, Billy Peltzer(Galligan), receives a Christmas present... a small furry creature called a Mogwa. Billy calls it Gizmo. Then Billy's dad Randall Peltzer(Axton) gives him three rules: "Don't expose him to bright light, don't ever get him wet,  and don't ever, EVER feed him after midnight".

Also Billy meets his romance Kate(Cates). Billy accidentally pours water on Gizmo, causing Gizmo to multiply. And, he feeds all the Gremlins (except Gizmo) after midnight, causing the Gremlins to transform into evil, dangerous, and crazy monsters.

Now I don't want to give too much of the plot because I don't want to make the article too long, even though it is gonna be a long one.

Sounds like an Interesting plot, doesn't it? Well I actually think that for those who haven't watched the movie, the plot I gave you does not sound like the best plot ever. But believe me,watch it. It's a good flick.

Personal Thoughts

Now I am not gonna give reviews of the movies, just my thoughts and experiences with it.

In my opinion, this is a great movie. It is funny, scary at times, and you will have a great time watching it. But even though it is my favorite movie of all time, it is not perfect. It feels a little short, but anyways it is and always will be my favorite film.

Also this film was one of the first movies to influence the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), as well as Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom. The scene that mainly influenced the MPAA for this rating was the awesome microwave scene.

You dont f*@k with Mrs Peltzer. (Only those who have seen the movie will understand what I mean)

And here is also one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

I think this is how I look when I am at the theater with my friends.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment in the film is the final battle at the store. The reason why is because it is pretty much dark and violent, and also a bit disturbing.

Also the 1st Gremlins is definitely way more darker than the 2nd one, but it still doesn't mean it is not a comedy based horror movie.

Epic Stuff.

Overall Score:My score for this film is gonna be a:9.5/10.

Critters(1986)

Year:1986

Director:Stephen Herek

Writer:Dominic Muir,Stephen Herek,Don Opper

Producer:Robert Shaye

Stars:Scott Grimes,Dee Wallace,Don Opper,Emmet Walsh

Genre:Horror,Comedy

The Plot

A family is menaced by round, furry, basketball-sized creatures who come from space in search of food. The family, especially Helen Brown(Wallace) and Brad Brown(Grimes) have to protect themselves from these dangerous little creatures. As well as two bounty hunters - Ug(Terrence Mann) and Charlie(Opper), who will help them to exterminate the Critters.

Again, I don't want to give too much plot.

AND AGAIN, it wasn't that good a plot. I mean even though I didn't give too much, this one sounded exciting. But that does not mean it is the better movie.

Personal Thoughts

Again, in my opinion this movie is great. And although a lot of people haven't seen it, they should. It's great! It's completely fun, and some moments are actually scary.

Also I should say this film is actually darker than Gremlins, but it is still comedy based.

But one of the down sides is it is a little slow paced. I definitely prefer the second one.

And it has one of my favorite movie themes ever:

Favorite Moment

My favorite scene happens to be one of the funniest scenes in the movie. There are two critters outside having a conversation:

Critter 1:They have weapons.

Critter 2:So what!

*They shoot Critter 2*
Critter 1:F*@k!

Overall Score:My score for this film is gonna be 8.0/10

Well guys, thanks for reading this. I hoped you like it, and in the next part we will look at sequels to these movies and maybe a different film...

Bye!.MatuX2

A favorite of mine is Gremlins. Ive never seen Critters but Gremlins and Gremlins 2 were both fun to watch, though the sequel was not as entertaining. Good article man

Very fun read MatuX. Gremlins was a favorite of mine for a long time. I too am surprised by the amount of violence in it. Many films of the 80s had a great deal more violence and language while still managing a PG rating. I'm thankful for the PG - 13 rating we gave these days.

Critters is a wonderful movie. All four of them, in fact.

Gremlins was such a good one

Love that movie. I did not care that much for Critters though, or Ghoulies.

Loved Gremlins when I was a kid. Watched it with my young daughter a couple years ago and I was surprised at how violent it was (much more so than I even remembered). I definitely think it was not a PG movie. I can understand why they created the PG-13 rating. Still a very enjoyable movie and a great part of 80s pop culture. (I am not as much a fan of the other 2 films).
